I saw it on the news yesterday. I can't for the life of me see how it's not animal cruelty tbh. I guess the argument is that it saves human lives....where humans were the cause in the first place.
The animals don't chose to enroll.
It's similar to the argument that human rights get dissolved when in the army, because it wouldn't be possible to account for them in ordering others to their death. I kind of see the point, but the people who were dredged up from poor communities to die weren't the ones that started the wars.

I agree on the 'choice' narrative to an extent. They don't have too many recruiting offices in well to do areas for the simple reason they'd enter through different methods and rank. The ones they target are the ones whom they are essentially employing to die. All the adverts are around pissing around in helicopters or rock climbing, seeing the world etc.
That's false advertising, they don't tell you about making you paint the grass, brainwashing you or the loss of limbs you endure at the behest of the political classes making war. Nor do they explain the career limitations of the private when they leave....the dog probably got more options.

Millions of horses have been killed in wars, there's nothing new in using animals.
You can argue the rights and wrongs of war but it won't make them go away.

Yes that's true. But it's something to think about that the moral high ground that is used as a measure to define ourselves vs 'the enemy' is generally one of our system being 'better' than theirs. When truth be told only 'we' manipulate animals to do our bidding.
Some might argue the Taliban etc would if they could....but then that's even worse, because it suggests we invested in making animals efficient to die in the name of 'duty'
Just a thought

Do you know we took the moral high ground against Hitler in WW2, the sheer hypocracy of it all. I think the tin can was invented to supply our troops in WW1

Unfortunately they can't train a human to smell explosives!
You'd like to think that in future they might develop a robot with some online air/gas detection that might be able to do the job.
