I like a proper pub, and I have been to every racecourse in the country except for FFos Lass. Being a Southerner, (Essex Boy), the Scottish Race Courses were nearly the last ones I got to, but one day about 12 years ago, me and my mate Andy, flew up to Edinburgh from Stansted one morning, got a bus into Princess Street, then another bus out to Mussleborough for a days racing. After the last race, myself and Andy walked up to the 5 furlong start to have a pint in Mrs Foremans. I wasn't disapointed, it was an absolute **** hole, with ATR being shown on a small telly attached to a wall, and about half a dozen scruffy individuals drinking, and minding their own business. One of the regulars must have had throat cancer or something, cos in order to be understood, he would put his fingers to his neck to order a drink. In a broad Scottish accent he shouted to the barman " Get me a fookin Scotch". Anyway, whenever i see racing from Mussleborough I always look for the big sign on the wall of the pub and remember the drunken Scotsman. The sign has been taken down, and the pub closed for housing develepmont . We are living in sad times. http://www.scottishgolfhistory.org/news/mrs-formans-is-no-more/ Any other pubs near racecourses worthy of a mention ?
No journey to Sedgefield complete without a quiet pint in Hogan's behind Darlington station.
A refined clientele, a friendly landlady and a warm welcome for southerners on their way to the races.

As Redcar racecourse is very close to town, there are loads of pubs near it. We used to pop in the Clarendon, but there's also the Yorkshire Cobble and aptly named Starting Gate and Winning Post plus others.

No indeed, sorry Ron-Russian, I just clicked on your avatar to see that it is, apparently, an Afghan or Russian doll-figure. Not sure your image is doing you any favours, mind..

When I went to Ayr, I ended up in a Wetherspoons that was a converted church. The toilets were upstairs behind the pulpit. Very tempted after a few vodka Jellies to stand up there doing my best Adolph Hitler impression.
