I've jumped ship on eating processed food recently my stomach started acting up and I started looking at the ingrediants of the food i was eating. One of my favourites was bread. Wheat prices went up 50 percent worlwide in 2008. So the rats who make your food up, started using the filler (previously used as a filler in cardboard boxes) SOY/Soya/Soy Lecathins.

the companies that add this to your food pump out positive news about soy/soya as an ingrediant - employing their own scientific staff to promote it. Telling you it's great. It's cheap.

some bad stuff about soy - which must be fermented. not used as a flour substitute.

1.Soybeans contain large quantities of natural toxins or “antinutrients”.
First among them are potent enzyme inhibitors that block the action of trypsin
and other enzymes needed for protein digestion.

2.These inhibitors are not deactivated during cooking & processing.
Test animals fed these inhibitors developed enlargement and pathological
conditions of the pancreas, including cancer.

3.Soybeans also contain haemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance that
causes red blood cells to clump together.
4.99% of soy is genetically modified and it among the highest contamination
by pesticides of any of our foods.

5.Soybeans are high in phytic acid, a substance that blocks the uptake of
the essential minerals calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and especially zinc,
in the intestinal tract.

6.Soy products contain high levels of aluminum, leached from the aluminum tanks
in which they are acid washed and processed at high temperatures.

7.Nitrites, which are potent carcinogens, are formed during the spray-drying of soy.

8.Soy Protein Isolates, which are shown to enlarge the pancreas and thyroid and increase
fatty acid deposits in the liver.

9.Soy contains toxic isoflavones.

10.Soy foods have a high concentration of goitrogens which block production of thyroid hormones.

11. soy/soya can fllod the body with estrogen a female hormone which can cause early puberty in girls and delay puberty in boys.

For a full comprehensive piece on the dangers of soy check out this article by Sally Fallon & Mary G. Enig ph.D.

the good part of  SOY - used in asia for centuries.
Soy’s beneficial properties are only available when a specific mold is grown on the beans in a process
called fermentation.

some foods which never had soy in it before, but now has it ?  cos profit is good.
mcvities chocolate digestives. crisps like quavers. cakes, all your cakes? warbuton bread. All your bread. jaffa cakes.

they stick it in foods as a filler - i find if the food is brown it's got soy.

these companies usually sell you anti acids or medicines to counter their food. it's a wonderful world.

Avoid processed foods, and modern farmed wheat if possible.
Spelt bread  is good as its made from unprocessed wheat.

who can you trust to make bread anymore? my brother makes his own sometimes with a bread maker. even the shops that make their own in house bread.... do they add soy.

went to eat ice cream today - soya lecithins in it? ffs.

Does Soya effect memory?

You seem to start this thread every other week.

Zorro, I like your health related threads, but think you should credit the original author as this is a copy and paste job. It's on mercola.

looks like you just did credit it - usually put it in brackets - but i cut and pasted it into my own word document and lost the link.

memory is fine - i repeat this because i love food and they adulterate it at a drop of a hat - bread has three to four ingredients. it never had soy/soya in it.
no food needs added soy in it to make it better. it's not sugar or salt. it's there as a filler like chalk.

Allergen - cancer cause - inhibitor - it's a villain.

I want to see it on bbc breakfast like suger was last month. the body needs sugar/glucose to function. Soya flour was used as a filler in cardboard box manufacturing.

the body needs sugar/glucose to function

That's true. The body evolved to make most of the glucose it needs from carbohydrate and fat.
Until recent times sugar was only available in our diets from eating fruit and certain roots and occasionally honey. It is not adapted to cope with huge quantities of refined sugar poured into it every day.

I think we have to read the labels and avoid highly processed foods packed with additives as much as possible. The food processors will only make stuff they can sell in quantity, if we leave it on the shelves they will stop. The public need to be educated, they have been largely failed so far.

I think some nutritionists should come with a health warning too. You don't need qualifications to call yourself a nutritionist and some have an agenda such as a new book for sale.
Always check what qualifications these self appointed advisers have before taking their advice especially if being reported second hand by a journalist.

It’s true that you need glucose to function, but it is certainly not true that you need to eat glucose to function. The body can and does produce all the glucose it requires without consumption of any carbohydrate. It’s what my body does on a high fat diet – it’s called gluconeogenesis. If you don’t eat carbs, the little glucose you actually need can be converted by acetone from fatty acids in the liver into ‘new glucose’. Likewise if you overeat protein the excess will go through a similar process and be turned to glucose. The body is a very smart bugger when you think about it.
Report Foinavon • April 5, 2016 2:34 PM BST
Yes, it's the reason I said "most" and not "all". Being on a high fat and no carbs diet is unusual and primitive man would have eaten a fair proportion of carbs in his diet from foraging for roots and other plant parts. Excess protein is always converted into glucose and the excess nitrogen excreted as urea.

fair enough zorro my mistake, I like your crusade against the food industry, IMO they are quite content to make us all ill as long as they are making money.

Ingredients on a label are not always easy to recognize as soy. These ingredients are created from soy that has been processed in some way:

Hydrolyzed soy protein (HSP)
Mono- and diglycerides
MSG (monosodium glutamate)
Soy (albumin, cheese, fiber, grits, milk, nuts, sprouts, yogurt, ice cream, pasta)
Soy lecithin (see above)
Soy protein (concentrate, hydrolyzed, isolate)
Soybean oil (see above)
Teriyaki sauce
Textured vegetable protein (TVP)
Possible Soy Ingredients

These ingredients may or may not contain soy. Call the manufacturer of the product to find out the source of the ingredient.

Bulking agent
Hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP) or hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)
Gum arabic
Guar gum
Lecithin
Mixed tocopherols
Natural flavoring
Stabilizer
Thickener
Vegetable gum, starch, shortening, or oil

The government need to be much more pacific when it comes to nutritional advice.

I was really pleased with myself for eating all the colours of the rainbow, until someone pointed out that I shouldn't include skittles.
