Avoid processed foods, and modern farmed wheat if possible.
Spelt bread is good as its made from unprocessed wheat. |

Does Soya effect memory?
You seem to start this thread every other week. |

Zorro, I like your health related threads, but think you should credit the original author as this is a copy and paste job. It's on mercola.

looks like you just did credit it - usually put it in brackets - but i cut and pasted it into my own word document and lost the link.

memory is fine - i repeat this because i love food and they adulterate it at a drop of a hat - bread has three to four ingredients. it never had soy/soya in it.
no food needs added soy in it to make it better. it's not sugar or salt. it's there as a filler like chalk. Allergen - cancer cause - inhibitor - it's a villain. I want to see it on bbc breakfast like suger was last month. the body needs sugar/glucose to function. Soya flour was used as a filler in cardboard box manufacturing. |

the body needs sugar/glucose to function
That's true. The body evolved to make most of the glucose it needs from carbohydrate and fat. Until recent times sugar was only available in our diets from eating fruit and certain roots and occasionally honey. It is not adapted to cope with huge quantities of refined sugar poured into it every day. I think we have to read the labels and avoid highly processed foods packed with additives as much as possible. The food processors will only make stuff they can sell in quantity, if we leave it on the shelves they will stop. The public need to be educated, they have been largely failed so far. |

I think some nutritionists should come with a health warning too. You don't need qualifications to call yourself a nutritionist and some have an agenda such as a new book for sale.
Always check what qualifications these self appointed advisers have before taking their advice especially if being reported second hand by a journalist. |

the body needs sugar/glucose to function
That's true. The body evolved to make most of the glucose it needs from carbohydrate and fat It’s true that you need glucose to function, but it is certainly not true that you need to eat glucose to function. The body can and does produce all the glucose it requires without consumption of any carbohydrate. It’s what my body does on a high fat diet – it’s called gluconeogenesis. If you don’t eat carbs, the little glucose you actually need can be converted by acetone from fatty acids in the liver into ‘new glucose’. Likewise if you overeat protein the excess will go through a similar process and be turned to glucose. The body is a very smart bugger when you think about it. |

Yes, it's the reason I said "most" and not "all". Being on a high fat and no carbs diet is unusual and primitive man would have eaten a fair proportion of carbs in his diet from foraging for roots and other plant parts. Excess protein is always converted into glucose and the excess nitrogen excreted as urea.

fair enough zorro my mistake, I like your crusade against the food industry, IMO they are quite content to make us all ill as long as they are making money.

Ingredients on a label are not always easy to recognize as soy. These ingredients are created from soy that has been processed in some way:
Hydrolyzed soy protein (HSP) Mono- and diglycerides MSG (monosodium glutamate) Soy (albumin, cheese, fiber, grits, milk, nuts, sprouts, yogurt, ice cream, pasta) Soy lecithin (see above) Soy protein (concentrate, hydrolyzed, isolate) Soybean oil (see above) Teriyaki sauce Textured vegetable protein (TVP) Possible Soy Ingredients These ingredients may or may not contain soy. Call the manufacturer of the product to find out the source of the ingredient. Bulking agent Hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP) or hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) Gum arabic Guar gum Lecithin Mixed tocopherols Natural flavoring Stabilizer Thickener Vegetable gum, starch, shortening, or oil |
