I respect your right to see Trump in whatever way you want Mikael but he is the one politician there or here who is pinpointing a problem and outlining policies to address the problem. Both Mexicans and Muslims have significant minorities within them who present a problem. Which isn't the same as saying they are all a problem. Just that on balance the problem the minority does represent is arguably significant enough to wish to stem the flow of these people.

As for America being a cesspit that is the kind of language very much prevalent on the left who have never forgiven America for being the great country it became. I'm not sure if all of them would rather the Soviets prevailed but I'm sure many of them do. It isn't a cesspit. The areas which are cesspits tend to be those dominated by uneducated and violent Hispanics and Blacks. Which returns us to the issue. Is immigration in itself enriching or is it immigration from certain groups which is enriching and immigration from others which is a net detriment to a country?

Europe has never been completely safe Mikael. As I pointed out though if you go back in to our history and look at recorded crime it remains very low throughout the 20th century and takes off in the 60's. It may be coincidence that this coincides with the era of mass immigration or it might not. I don't know.

being "safe" is defined by how likely you are to be murdered ?

assessing likely risk to all crime is the only stat that would be relevant,so include knife crime, rape ,serious assaults ect ect ect then your talking .

Some might argue that a population of defenseless , passive ,wishy washy wet lettuces cuts crime .

It is also the perception of safety which is relevant. If you have spent your life amongst cut throat jakes as have generations of your family then your perception of safety is likely to be different than if you are a little old lady who was brought up in a bucolic country with very low crime rates and you suddenly find yourself living cheek by jowl with young male "victims" of civil war in Africa.

I genuinely didn't know this before you posted but I looked it up. Take a guess which country has the higher reported rape rate, USA or UK...

As for knife-crime, I didn't bother looking but who turns up at a gunfight with a knife?

Judging by the use of the word 'reported,' I'm going to stick my neck out and guess it's the latter.

far higher levels of civility in america in your opinion but not mine for the reasons ive already stated. although maybe i'm coming round to that view as i find you so uncivil Sad.

according to government figures our crime rate was on a downawrd trend from the mid 90s and now with a new methodology crime has doubled in a year. this is yet another area where you can skew the figures any way you want. if youve read the telegraph report today it is really comparing apples and oranges with a misleading headline to boot.

the point is trump said something to be controversial and get more headlines so it will work for him as usual. if it stops yanks from travelling here then he isnt helping us imo. he is exploiting and exagerating a problem for his own gain regardless of the truth of the matter. balance, nuance and reasoned argument arent concepts that bother trump.

I know it's bred into some but why on earth would you want to sign up to
protect this once great country when you know you'll get treated like
sh!t - & left to live on the streets in some cases!

point about NOT judging America until you can comprehend the size and diversity of the place and its people is a good one ,NY,Chicago and Boston are not really indicative of averages in the US IMO.
yet prob make up a huge percentage of the crime stats

.
http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/news/articles/2016/new-analysis-method-makes-increasing-rate-of-violent-crime-visible/

They found the rate of domestic violence has been increasing since 2009. The rate of violence against women has also been increasing since 2009. But violent crime against men is still decreasing.

The rate of violent crime overall has started to increase since 2009, driven by the changes in domestic violent crime and in violent crime against women.

These findings contradict the official view that violent crime in England and Wales is continuing to fall. This increase is concentrated among ‘high frequency’ victims - those who experience multiple attacks.

The research finds that domestic violent crime and violent crime against women have been increasing since 2009.  Before this, these forms of violent crime had been falling since the mid-1990s. The change point, from decrease to increase, coincides with the start of the economic crisis.

extrapolating meaningful data from crime stats is fraught with danger .

In brendans example i would suggest there has been an increase in reported violence and a much higher conviction rate ,i doubt  the actual acts of crime have increased since 2009 but just a hunch .

extrapolating trends is where its got a meaningful purpose but you need some sort of control stats as well

Well hang on a cotton picking minute there Bucko. You were the one who came on to the politics forum picking a fight and twice I let it go and sought to maintain cordiality. Only when it became clear that you saw this as weakness and continued to chance your arm did I fold you in half and you ran away. I'm more than happy to debate intelligently with people who keep things civil. People like yourself who want to play with a grenade with the pin out get their arms blown off.

From at least Blair onwards if not before crime stats became politicised with police forces often seemingly more interested in managing and massaging the figures than solving crime and taking the scum off the streets. You can only go off much longer time frames as I've suggested and these are clear and incontrovertible. At the time we started to become "enriched" in the 60's beginning with Jamaican Yardies etc that is when our problems really began and this is shown in the crime stats.

I think Trump what may have meant is that Europe is not safe from Muslim Terrorism...and he is damn right.

Although it is Europe's support of the United States in their Middle East adventures which has caused this.

If our leaders had any guts or brains we would have bowed out of that one...but sadly they did not.

Whether Trump thinks the free world has become weak or not, solving this problem is going to take some thought not just muscle

because this a war against Terrorism and with our Muslims we are vulnerable.

The priority at the moment is to defeat ISIS in the Middle East, they are weakening. Then get Assad and the Rebels together in Syria to work out

a solution, whatever it takes, to end the civil war in Syria. That means NO MORE REFUGEES in Europe whom ISIS can infiltrate.

We are living in a world which is far too extreme. This is not just Muslims but the West as well, although we don't see this ourselves

except me of course.

Anyway on we go on the merry go round, I don't think human beings were ever meant to get on together.

Just my personal opinion
