A true legend of the game.

So skilful and miles ahead of his time in his way of thinking about football.

How many smiles did he bring to football fans' faces over the years when watching his sublime talents I wonder?

You can't ask for more than that in life: Bringing pleasure to millions.

Very well done Johan, and thank you on behalf of millions of us.

Really sad news. A genius on the football field and a great ambassador of the beautiful game. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

There's a special programme for half an hour on Radio 5 about Johan starting now.

Saw him play at Wembley against England.  Couldn't understand why England (a good team at the time, never since) didn't crush them.  Don't recall a thing he did.  Anyhow, he, and the teams he played in, were generally exceptional.  We are diminished.  And he was never tarred by the corrupt billions sloshing around world football.  They ought to burn Blatter at his funeral as a suitable offering.

Apparently the Guardian newspaper has printed a huge colour frontis of Cruyff in the sport section today.......only problem is that it's Rensenbrink...the three Adidas stripes should have given it away...

What a bunch of trumpets...

But not yet.

If they weren't there, they wont get him right.

Buying several copies of this in the morn...will take my portfolio case to Tesco...clearly a collector's item...surprised they didn't headline it as the ultimate "JOAN CRAFT TRIBUTE."
Report bodil • March 25, 2016 1:41 AM GMT
Probably a waste of time.  Trump!  Come and save us from ourselves!
Report Velasquez • March 25, 2016 1:45 AM GMT
What a bunch of feckless tubes at the Guardian, eh? They've excelled themselves this time...at least they didn't print a big photie of Paul Sturrock in his Dundee Utd. days.

You know, Bodil, there was a selection of goat's cheeses in the fridge but I opted for the sugary doughnuts instead as they sit easier on the stomach overnight.
Report Velasquez • March 25, 2016 1:54 AM GMT
I thought about some Kraft Cheesey Pasta as an orangey tribute to the Dutch Masters of '74 but I didn't want to fire up the cooker in case I set off the smoke alarm at this hour when most civilised people are asleep.
Report bodil • March 25, 2016 1:56 AM GMT
You did know cheese makes me vomit?  Of course you did.  How could we have conversed for so long otherwise?

Steady now.

Why haven't I seen any royalties, then?
Report bodil • March 25, 2016 2:01 AM GMT
This is not our last stand.

Though now I think about it, our last stand is going to be bloody and painful.

Steely Dan is wonderful, almost without exception.
Report bodil • March 25, 2016 2:03 AM GMT
Apart from your legally misunderstood royalties (after the bloody bit).
Report Velasquez • March 25, 2016 2:11 AM GMT
I like the tune about late 50s nostalgia done by the guy who was in Steely Dan - Dan Foggerberry or whatever the unfortunate lad's name is...the one about the Commies pressing down the nuclear button as he escapes down the hatch with his preppie blonde shiksa.
Report bodil • March 25, 2016 2:15 AM GMT

Report Velasquez • March 25, 2016 2:28 AM GMT
I feel I should mention this as we have to make some sort of attempt to examine just how the Guardian newspaper got it SO wrong regarding that Cruyff tribute. Why did none of their staff NOTICE? Were they afraid to question the editorial status quo??

Political correctness gone mad!
Report Velasquez • March 25, 2016 2:41 AM GMT
Anyway, Bodil, it has really been rather superb / and / or / a bit of a let down, talking to you again (and Tommy Toes too) after the long, harsh winter. Tommy's typing has been slower than usual. Please tell Tommy Toes that Tunnock's are selling hi-quality steak pies now, with flakey pastry, which you can purchase after touring the biscuit factory in Uddingston IN PERSON. It's no good sending an ambassador as he or she will only consume the pie ere it reaches you.

I am off now to watch Season Two of The Partridge Family before the Communists press the button.
