Main point that strikes me so far is that forecast for 2019/20 surplus involves £30bn fiscal turnaround one ONE year!!

yeah it was all b.ollox.  40 billion deficit forecast, then 2 years later he reckons we'll have a 10 billion surplus.  Just making up numbers from thin air.

I'm delighted he appears to have left pensions alone, for now... I was also expecting fuel duty to rise and he has left that alone. He has not raised tax on beer either, so it looks like a fin budget to me. I can't say I have scrutinised it too closely yet. Excuse me while I digest the 148 page pdf budget document. ShockedTongue Out

He should have chucked a bit of tax on petrol whilst oil is so cheap.

Just think how happy Jamie Oliver is, on his lovely big farm, whilst you in your pokey bedsit console yourself with expensive sweet treats.

been tee total for about 30 years; it's cheaper to go out to a pub or stop in come to think of it; and get peed out of my brain than it is to be sober Crazy

The UK duty rate for the road fuels unleaded petrol, diesel, biodiesel and bioethanol is £0.5795 per litre. Value Added Tax at 20% is also charged on the price of the fuel and on the duty. (TAX ON TAX)

The % of tax from the £0.5795 per litre part has of course gone up as the petrol/diesel price has fallen. The VAT part will have fallen.

Sugar tax pathetic

Reduce the tax on **** and booze to their proper level and people wont eat so much sugar will they...simple

Yet another attack on the poor to make the rich richer

We need a communist revolution, I will volunteer to lead itLaugh

Maybe producers will reduce sugar levels in their products.
Obesity costs the country a fortune through related health problems.
Report ebulGery • March 16, 2016 8:53 PM GMT
Yes but living longer costs it even more...if you think about it

One has to take into account things like pension and care costs which would increase
Report akabula • March 16, 2016 9:04 PM GMT
Well lets stuff sugar down their throats when they get to a certain age. Problem solved. Laugh
Report Ibrahima Sonko • March 16, 2016 9:04 PM GMT
The tax is more about producers being more than companies that attack the weakness in humans.

We do have something called 'will power'

We do not have to eat food with sugar in it as we don't have to drink or smoke if we do not want to

I do not want our government to use taxes to try and force us into eating food that tastes so bad we have to force it down personally

I think we should make the most of life why we have it, we are not here long

Dont blame food companies, we should accept responsibility for our own health
Report Ibrahima Sonko • March 16, 2016 10:22 PM GMT
So you have the will power and you buy a salad with 50 grams of sugar and salt in it too make you buy it again as it satisfies your taste buds you think its all fine ?
Report ebulGery • March 16, 2016 10:31 PM GMT
It is quite natural for us to eat we like, all animals do this.

If I am concerned about my health I can look what is in it.
Report ebulGery • March 16, 2016 10:32 PM GMT

The problem is Ebul that the majority of the mankind are feckin stupid and can't be trusted to look after themselves.
You just have to look at the numbers voting SNP to know that's true.
