In truth Bowie was of course no stranger to selling worthless stuff for good money. Remember his infamous Junk Bonds? (Not forgetting most of his albums from around '84 onwards)

Thank the Lord no-one mentioned Bowie's albums from '84 onward when the eulogies were being made in January, rightly concentrating instead on the almost peerless 1970-77 period.
Bowie was a businessman first and foremost from that 1984 period onwards, after the excruciating Adult Education Lesson handed to him by his former manager.
That's perhaps why Bowie accumulated such astonishing wealth in that period, leaving an estate of over $100 million.
RIP an excellent entertainer who thankfully generally eschewed making the sort of daft and half-baked 'political' statements that go hand in hand with not very bright pop stars, and others I could mention. David spared himself, for example, the humiliating embarrassment of claiming to offer any of his many homes to (alleged) Refugees, and to then renege on the offer.

The late businessman David Bowie had a £14 million Caribbean property at one time. It's now in other hands and available to rent. David was no socialist that's for sure, and I don't think David would have offered any of his many homes to Rapefugees.
oooh - i got the facility - i have sold paintings and illustrations - i can't bear a dabbler like Bowie doing art and asking for cash, any incompetent celebrity. just as i wouldn't presume to strum on a guitar and expect to be paid. Did Bowie do his neighbour's plumbing? or charge for half eaten sandwiches. There are a lot of celebrities that paint that are competent. Bowie's painting was just plain bad - they said it was acrylic, but looked like watercolour. this was because it was watered down. Acrylic is a modern substitute that's used to emulate oil paint. He clearly did not know what he was doing. It's like i picked up a guitar and started strumming on it with chopsticks.
He was a musician and a stylist. A man that took ideas from all around him and made them his own. but art(mark making) was not his game.

There are only two ways that someone can become a great artist.
1. Be part of a group that has found a new way to paint, such as the Impressionists
2. Paint in a style that is uniquely and recognizably your own, such as Van Goth, Cezanne, L.S. Lowry, Hopper etc.
