THE Queen has been hailed as a backer of Brexit tonight after details emerged of an extraordinary alleged bust-up between her and Nick Clegg over Europe.

Her Majesty let rip at the then Deputy PM during a lunch at Windsor Castle, The Sun has been told.

The 89-year-old monarch firmly told passionate pro-European Mr Clegg that she believed the EU was heading in the wrong direction.

Her stinging reprimand went on for “quite a while”, leaving other guests around the table stunned.

if this is true, which I believe it could well be (apart from THE SUN) I shall be laughing myself to sleep tonight!

Good on you, Your Majesty.

Clegg, you're little less than an unmeaningful dickwart.

Surely each and every opinion any of us ventures has some sort of political element to it?

Even those who love the EU speak of the need for reform (i.e. audit your ****** accounts)

Are we really saying the Head of State can saying nothing about anything??? Oh and the BCC chap suggested perhaps we may have a brighter future outside the EU..

Surprised he wasn't sent to the gallows.

FFS..

She's a constitutional monarch and therefore must remain politically neutral.

She openly supports the troops abroad fighting in various conflicts.

That's political.

Whether this latest story is true or not, it would not be the first time she has spoken unfavorably about Brussels, and I think everyone knows The Duke of Edinburgh's thoughts on the EU.

The Lib Dems opposed the Iraq war. The Queen has openly supported the troops in Iraq and elsewhere.

That alone makes her support political.

Therefore for people to say her possible stance on the EU is unconstitional makes little sense given her support for Blair's wars.
Report akabula • March 9, 2016 8:44 PM GMT
Big difference Injera. The Queen supports our troops. Where is your proof she supported Blairs wars.
Report Injera • March 9, 2016 8:50 PM GMT
With that logic - why has the Palace got so angry over Brexit?

For her to voice an opinion that the EU may have 'gone too far' is hardly a vote for Farage and Boris. As you say, to support the troops is not an endorsement  of Blair's foreign policy (or was it?) Either way, it's irrelevant.

The Palace seem quick to distance Her Majesty from Brexit. Why????

It's this ludicrous hushing up of peoples' opinions that does my head in.

So a woman from an German family line with a Greek husband wants out of Europe?

Apparently the alleged comments were made at privy council gatherings, so blabbing to the newspapers is a gross breach of protocol.  In the old days they called that kind of thing treason.
