I can honestly say the most hospitable place i have ever been is Peshawar.Paradoxically the most conservative, ultra religous part of Pakistan.Taliban central in a lot of ways.
However, everyone that i met there was amazingly receptive.I would constantly hear in broken English..."Jesus was great prophet too, we believe Mohammed, but it's ok my friend" |

Larry, I am talking about the invasions of the Middle East by the West since the first Gulf War, in order to remove strong Arab Leaders. The appalling death toll from this and from the power vacuum we left Which ones? The ones before or after Luxor, 9/11 and dozens of other Islamic terror attacks since the 1980s? I regard as an atrocity committed by The West. Happy to blame the entire 'West' whilst criticising people for generalising when they suggest that Islam, or at least parts of it, are somewhat to blame? It is still going on because we seem unable the stop the civil war in Syria. 'The West' is dammed if they do, damned if they don't get involved here. You can blame 'the west' every time they do intervene and blame them every time they don't intervene. You seem to suggest that we should intervene. Make your mind up. Our defence is to blame Islam, that does not wash with me, I blame us. That may feel virtuous to you but are you not just looking for someone to blame, just the same as those that blame Islam? If I was a Muslim I would hate us...I am White British and an Atheist( with vestiges of C of E) and communist/socialist. Why would it take you to be Muslim to hate us? Surely wrong is wrong and you should hate us anyway? Principals are not a salad bar I say it as I see it, agree or disagree as you will. I am not sure you understand your own argument let alone me understand it so can't really agree or disagree You may well have a point there Arley, but I am tolerant of all religions, so accept it Are you tolerant of the extreme parts of all religions? If you didn't have so many double standards, you wouldn't have any standards at all |

Larry, I am talking about the invasions of the Middle East by the West since the first Gulf War,
in order to remove strong Arab Leaders. The appalling death toll from this and from the power vacuum we left Which ones? The ones before or after Luxor, 9/11 and dozens of other Islamic terror attacks since the 1980s? 9/11 happened in 2001 and was a direct response to the first Gulf War and sanctions on Iraq While I sympathise with those killed...the cause was just Luxor was 2015 The attacks in the 1980s were directed towards the Jews by the Palestine Arabs because they feel the Jews have stolen at least half their country,....which I agree with I regard as an atrocity committed by The West. Happy to blame the entire 'West' whilst criticising people for generalising when they suggest that Islam, or at least parts of it, are somewhat to blame? apologies I blame the US and any country that supported them in any invasions of the Middle East, this includes us Our defence is to blame Islam, that does not wash with me, I blame us. That may feel virtuous to you but are you not just looking for someone to blame, just the same as those that blame Islam? Well I have to blame the countries that did the attacking don't I, I can hardly do anything else??? Why would it take you to be Muslim to hate us? Surely wrong is wrong and you should hate us anyway? Principals are not a salad bar If we attack a country I would expect them to hate us, I would, Muslims will tend to sympathize with fellow Muslims, that is human nature My last line was facetious that is all |

You need to go away and read up about the historical origins of radical Shia and Sunni Islam. I can assure you it long predates 9/11. |

9/11 happened in 2001 and was a direct response to the first Gulf War and sanctions on Iraq Think that is massively over simplifying the motives involved here. Another motive is that
While I sympathise with those killed...the cause was just Remind me which country was the aggressor in the first Gulf War? You think Sanctions for invading another country are a just cause for murdering thousands of innocent civilians? Would you then agree then that murdering middle eastern civilians in response is justified? Surely an even more just cause for it (whilst sympathising with the dead, of course)? You are justifying the cause to murder innocent people unless the west does it in which case it is an atrocity. Cognitive dissonance. Luxor was 2015 - Was referring to 1997. You would have realised that if you weren't just frantically googling in lieu of knowledge. And this uncovers the problem in having this discussion with you. You had better go and do some more googling. |

Ostensibly the first Gulf War was to free Kuwait, but the real reason was to bring down Saddam Hussein in order to protect Israel.
What tells me that is the excessive amount of killing of Saddam's troops and the continued sanctions after the war that were not justified. Also it was written in US foreign policy. I consider this both an evil and unnecessary act. The Luxor 1997 attack appeared to be part of an internal power struggle in Egypt. All the problems in the Middle East come from the creation of Israel which has no right to exist not Shia and Sunni Islam. |

The current hell on earth in the Middle East has been caused by the removal of strong Arab leaders. The Arabs needed them to keep
control, the Arabs are not like us. |
|
By:
I can't argue with that ebulGery.

gerry may have some weight to his argument but where do we stop ? Should we not be blaming the Turks for their management of the Ottoman empire and their abuse of the arabs before WW1 when the west takes all the blame too ? We are too eager to offer ourselves up for some hand wringing guilt trip but the middle east has to take some responsibility for its own actions over the last 100 years, they havent exactly co existed in peace and harmony together.Davy gets it right for me,the export of wahhabism hatred by the saudis bearsa lot of responsibility for what has happened over the last twenty years. I recall entering the Islamic Bnak in Jeddah hearing that the saudis were funding new mosques all over africa and Europe as long as they took Imams from Saudi to preach, rather like our missionaries but without the peace and love beliefs. Our embassy staff were not interested in hearing my concern back then.

I would concede some of that treetop.
The Arabs are there own worst enemy because they are nomadic, they seem to like fighting each other a lot over tribal, religious and other differences. Why they need their strong leaders and I don't think they get democracy at all. There is a vey extreme brand of Islam now being propagated, as you say treetop. Saudi Arabia for one as you also say, they appear to be going back in time....but I think this may be in response in what they see as attacks on Muslim values by the West.. In the West we are moving away from extreme religious values(usually Christian) we have been seduced by materialism perhaps too much in my opinion So I would not attack Muslim values, particularly in the role of women....with a few exceptions, forced child marriage, female circumcision but not all Muslims do this do they. So I would tend to leave them to their own values here. Although I see it causes problems in our society but we let them in did we not, I am afraid we should not have. We should have listened to Enoch, human beings don't mix anything like as well as we think. I also se no need no need for universal values either, because believe it or not this harms us.. The secret of life, of evolution is variety, do not throw this away...we may need some of these alternative values one day. |
