Larry, I am talking about the invasions of the Middle East by the West since the first Gulf War,
in order to remove strong Arab Leaders. The appalling death toll from this and from the power vacuum we left I regard as an atrocity committed by The West. It is still going on because we seem unable the stop the civil war in Syria. Our defence is to blame Islam, that does not wash with me, I blame us. If I was a Muslim I would hate us...I am White British and an Atheist( with vestiges of C of E) and communist/socialist. I say it as I see it, agree or disagree as you will. You may well have a point there Arley, but I am tolerant of all religions, so accept it. |

Ebul, I think you are right to an extent.I think the rise of militant Islam has more to do with the Saudi propagation of Wahhabism than actions of the west.
But, western countries have overthrown several secular Arab governments that does have a lot to do with it too.Arabs are not the savages that many on this forum make them out to be. I was in Syria (pre civil war) and it was the friendliest country I have ever been to.Very nice people, just like us really. Two years ago I was in Pakistan for two weeks, even to relatively unsafe cities like Peshawar and Karachi.Again, they were fantastic, I mean incredibly hospitable despite the fact that they knew I was not a Muslim. So yeah, its wrong the judge a whole people on the actions of a few. |
