used to" bomp on " in the 1970s as a teenager the line waiting to sign on consisted of plenty of blokes wearing their working clothes with paint ,plaster ,cement etc  and you would often get shouts from the back of the que of " for fecks sake hurry up ive got to back to work in 10 minsLaughLaughLaugh " went on all the time in those days

Easiest money you'll ever get. 10mins work pretending youre trying to find a job every 2 weeks Cool

Happens on a way bigger scale these days, except it's been legitimized and called Working Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit and Housing Benefit instead of dole.

I spent all my time in the library and found love on the dole in there.

Was on the dole in a previous life. I do not recall being showered with cash like it said in the papers. Apparently they have security guards in job centres now -- no idea what that's all about -- maybe the dimmer villains think they keep thousands of quid to pay out in cash to people signing on.

The security guards are there to protect the staff as they attempt to implement IDS's policies.

I've signed on dole, got some funny looks in the supermarket though, who signs their tinned pineapples.

20 years ago maybe. Now it's working 35 - 40 hours a week in Poundland for a few months at a time earning less than £2 an hour
