has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

Very sad news, I hope his family are able to make his last few months/weeks as comfortable as possible for him.

Very sad news. Seen similar at first hand and it's tough on all concerned. Thoughts with him and his family during this terrible time.

One of the biggest stars on TV at one time, and a terrific magician.

Great shame.

He was very good Kenny. I always wondered why he was dropped. Sad news for him.

His name always brings back a lot of memories of my childhood, as he and his parents used to own and run my local shop in South Bank. It was called Daniels! but he used a bit more imagination in choosing his stage name when he was trying to make a name for himself in the local clubs he worked in with his magic act with his first wife Jackie as his assistant..he was known as Eldanis ( an anagram of daniels)

One lasting memory for me is of the scam us kids had of asking the neighbours if they wanted a bag of handy coal, this was a small bag of coal that the shop sold for half a crown (12.5p now but a lot of money for a kid in the north east in the 60s) we used to steal the coal which was on display outside the shop and pocket the cash.I got caught one day and hauled up to the flat that they lived in above the shop and Nancy (Paul's mother who knew my dad) warned me that if I ever tried anything like that again she would tell my dad and he would't be best pleased. She was right there as he would have taken his belt off and given me a good thrashing with it. lesson learned - whenever I stole anything after that, I made sure I was never caught ;-)

He was a decent quiz show host, notably Wipeout before Bob Monkhouse took over

Crags....where did you live in the North East?
Report The Leopard • February 21, 2016 9:47 AM GMT
Okay, Wiki tells me :

Daniels was born at South Bank, Middlesbrough, the son of Handel Newton Daniels and Nancy Lloyd.[2] Handel (known as Hugh) was a cinema projectionist at the Hippodrome Theatre and a former worker at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Wilton

Anyone remember that brilliant trick where he left the country after Labour on the '97 election?

RIP.

Some friends of mine shared a table with him and his wife on a cruise.
They said he had a genuine wit and was very good company.

Understand he has returned home to spend final days with family.

Money, wit and charisma; not to mention a shared interest in dance, of all things (unless I'm getting them mixed up with some other celebrity couple).

He did but spent a fair whack of it on promoting some sort of stage show that Debbie was involved in.

It might be interesting to learn from the obituaries how well Paul Daniels was regarded as a conjurer. Did the professionals rate him? His style went out of fashion in the face of the American spectaculars, but I could never see the attraction of David Blaine not moving for a week, and David Copperfield seemed to be more about the sets than the man.

RIP breaking news very quick

He had a fair innings, but his mother, Nancy, lived to 97 and only died 2 years ago, so PD probably thought he'd have a few more years left in him.

RIP

Sad news. On the plus side though this means Debbie's back on the market.

She must be a bit of a pin up to some of you older fellows on here. Except Kenny. He would still be cradle snatching.
