And should there be mandatory weekly checks ?
I would never live in a house with gas heating but neighbours may be stupid enough to.

And then there are fires from electrical faults so perhaps not a good idea to live attached to a house on mains electricity.

Baron is okay on the neighbours front until they start doing terraced caravans.

You have made him worse saying that BixLaugh

i got back to my place recently and could smell gas. Not only that but all the lights weren't working - must have all been connected.

Anyway, was a complete pain in the arzole. dug out a zippo to give me some light as i checked the cooker out, but couldn't find any leak.

Had to call the corgi man out the next day (didn't bring any dogs at all strangely, or canaries).

I have a yearly check lfc1971

So perhaps if could be argued everybody should do that, although perhaps gas suppliers should be obliged to offer it free

that is an idea

Weekly is hardly necessary

Technology is a seductive thing, it can make people lose all sense. They welcome without understanding the first thing about it, and the dangers.
Then they look surprised.

The question we have to ask is, is the world getting safer?
I think we know the answer to that.

Textbook procedure that, upon entering a building that smells of gas, start flipping electric switches and approach the source of a smell with a naked flame LaughWhoops

You never see a man holding a newspaper over his head in the rain anymore. People don`t buy papers and you can`t hold tour laptop over your head in the rain. Ihave never seen that.

I've just been trying out a Dyson airflow heater- powered by solar in the day -  but our house is far to big for it to make a difference.

So its back to the gas central heating

When i've got 10 minutes free i'll stroll the half mile over to the neighbours and report back on whether they are worried.

OP- why dont you just move to a Manor with a few acres and be free of the problem?

I have moved to the countryside but a farmer put up a turbine. I have a slight phobia of wind turbines. When I drive past it I get a feeling in my stomach like you get when drive over a sudden dip in the road
Awful things.

Those blades have been known to fly off, some were made in China.

You can get gas leak detectors for about the same price as a smoke alarm (same idea), worth the price if you are worried
