PS, I think the club you are thinking of is known as 'The Tute' short for The Institute working mans club. There may be one called 'The Chew' though. Maybe a few people have had their ears chewed off in there

daffodil- where about in small heath did you live and have you been there since a proper khazi Lived in Tennyson road among many others, drank in every pub along the Coventry road,loved the place,banter among the Irish was great,went thru there recently and didn't recognize the place but never felt threatened. |

Malt shovel was on the corner of munzt st and coventry road,then there was 1 halfway down,The Nest just before summerville,1 more further up,the White Lion and then the 1 on the corner of bordesley or green lane and munzt st,but for the life of me I can't think of it's name and I'm sure there was one called the Monica right by summerville rd

The Gary Owen bouncers were the worst I've ever encountered - some of the kickings they used to dish out were horrific.
Police were always trying to get the place shut down - usually after finding another body in the road outside the club! |

Voluntary work , was it Emden ? Only been through Grangeown once and wouldn't want to stop there too long but been spared the nightlife experience. I would have thought Moss Side would rival the place though. |

I grew up in the east end of London, lived for a year or so in Luton, for 5 years in Liverpool and spent summers in my childhood/youth very near to Jaywick (which wasn't rough back then - but it is rough now!!!) and I went there only last week to have a look round, now as rough as sandpaper.
All those places are rough, but I have been more worried when visiting 2 other places. I nominate: Wisbech, which is in 2nd place in my experience to.... Radcliffe. |

While living in the west mids I helped out a mate who owns a betting shop in Handsworth. tbf I was concerned about where I parked the car. |

Moss Side has improved immeasurably over the last 5 - 10 years. The police and the council arrested and moved on dispersing many of the gangs and trouble makers.
In their place they moved in lots of somali refugees who tended to be families who want to get on in life. The number of shootings organised crime issues have dropped significantly. |

Moss Side. That's where Belle Vue stadium is, isn't it? It looked not very nice when I went to the dogs there. |

Not too far off Study. Belle Vue is in East Manchester technically Gorton I think. It's three or four miles away from Moss Side which is South Manchester. Used to love going to the dogs there when I was a nipper back in the 70's but many of the inner and surrounding areas of Manchester are a bit rough and ready.

Rusholme is a bit rough around there,especially if you area young and vulnerable female surrounded by Somali boys,apprently ! My lass went to Uni there 20 years ago and loved it but I would have serious doubts letting her go to Manchester uni nowadays.

My early dog days, eo - and most of the most recent ones were at Walthamstow. Still the best sports stadium of any kind ever, imo.
Plus as a kid, Saturday mornings at Hackney. Sadly no, Capt. I gave it up, 3 months ago, it was way too expensive to run and the stress and grief were way too much. A dead business for the indy, I can't see many, if any single (or even a few) shop operations lasting much longer. I'm doing something else now, something totally new and which I've had to learn about very quickly and, on the plus side, I'm back darn sarf! |
luckily I have no cause to visit there now.
