Loads of rough places, Slippy but I was brought up in South Bank/Middlesbrough that wasn't too bad back then but is very dodgy now. Grangetown, a mile or so away where my sister lived, was also rough but it's off the scale these days. Was once voted the worst place in Europe!

Never been to LIverpool but my instinct is that it has to be the worst northern city even by northern city standards and that the worst place in the country is surely going to be an inner city suburb of a big city. Went to middlesborough once and it was rancid. Luton, Wellingborough and Corby are all sh1tholes, Hastings not in the same league whoever it was who nominated Hastings. |

I would love to go and visit Jaywick, how would they take to an out of towner engaging in a bit of poverty tourism. Bungalows going for 20k a pop. Direct trains to London (allbeit 1:30). This is crying out for gentrification. Pay each chav family 10k to fk off, put in a few gastro pubs, already has a nice golf course, Those bungalows will increase in price exponentially.

I know that pub screaming. Only been in the daytime, wasn't rough at all, just a sh1thole. double vodka and coke was about £1.80. Used to love a few liveners in there before the train down to the better half of the country following a pleasant coast 2 coast walk. Shall have to do it again some time soon.

A NATIONAL radio DJ was caught up in a pub brawl after a train mishap left him stranded in a North-East town.
BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills recalled his encounter with fractious Darlington natives to breakfast show listeners yesterday. He said: “There was a fight, at about 3pm. Some bloke had said he didn’t like someone’s hair or something and there was a massive fight. We were just keeping our heads down.” He said the fight came to an end when Starship’s 1987 hit Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now began playing on the jukebox. He said: “About five minutes afterwards, everyone just carried on singing and dancing, arms in the air like nothing had happened – the middle of the afternoon, all big burly men and women.” He did not name the pub, but said it was the one “nearest the train station”. Michelle Woodford, who runs Hogans, in Victoria Road, near the station, said she was unaware of any incident at the time of the fight Mills was involved in. A charming establishment for a soothing early morning drop. A simply marvellous pint of Cameron's served at 9.30am by the landlady, who full of vigour and spritely virtue dispensed the ale as we welcomed the start of a new day. Thats just a normal day entertainment in Hogans. Coz there's always people arguing over whos getting the next round of 80 bob in and shoplifters are fighting each other coz one has trod on another's patch and undercut him coz his sold his packs of bacon and gillette rasors a quid cheaper than normal to his regulars, who are also known as HOGANS HEROES lol, doing their bit for queen and country lol. And Scott Mills who is a southern, nancy, marigold wearer does'nt know what real entertainment is and next time his passing Darlo he just wants to stay on his train and get straight back to Soho where he belongs, WELL AYE. |

Crags has it right, Grangetown is plain scary. The first Mrs O hailed from those parts, how she escaped I'll never know, but we had occasion to visit her formidable family from time to time and it was never less than entertaining. Like Shameless, but with genuinely hard, nasty, violent b4stards and that was just the women and kids. I'll never forget that boxing day visit to 'The Chew', a working mens club. Jeez...
You know how they say that The Queen must think everywhere smells of fresh paint? Well, if the people from round there ever go anywhere else, they must wonder why the ground isn't covered with broken glass and dog sh1t. Most inner city area's could be considered rough I suppose,sign of the times. |

Newtown/Nechells much the same area,lived in Newtown for a few years before the drug lords took over,one on every corner,complete with several mobile phones,even the school crossing lollipop man was convicted of drug dealing while working.
