So what can we eat knowing the animal hasn't disgustingly
had it's throat cut while still alive in 2016.

KEBABS, INDIANS AND FRIED CHICKEN
It is fair to say that every kebab shop will serve halal lamb and chicken, if for no other reason than that the kebab is a middle-eastern invention. The kebab meat will be sourced from specialist suppliers, and if any of them are not Muslim, it would be very surprising. The same goes for curry houses. Most ‘Indian’ restaurants are in fact run by Muslims, not Hindus, and any restaurant run by Muslims will serve up halal lamb and chicken and will not announce the fact on the menu

THE RESTAURANT TRADE
Halal chicken and lamb are likely to emerge from the kitchens in Harvester, Toby, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants. Whitbread, who own the latter two along with Premier Inns, have admitted that three-quarters of their poultry is halal. Mitchells and Butlers are responsible for Harvester, Toby and TravelLodge. They told Christian Voice that New Zealand lamb – of which 75% is halal – is being used as well as halal chicken in their outlets.

why are we being forced into eating Halal?
it has no place in this country, surely any restaurant chain
is putting their business at risk by catering for what we're told
is a small % of the poulation?

Halal is a dead story (almost literally). Even the RSPCA aren't interested anymore.  90%  and rising of Halal killed animals are pre stunned making their death pretty much identical to usual methods.   How was your roast chicken lunch today?

Most supermarket chicken is gassed!

A customer at a Leicester branch of KFC has said he was “shocked” when he was refused a hand-wipe as it might offend other restaurant-goers.

Graham Noakes, 41, said he was astonished when staff at the fast food chain’s outlet in St George’s retail park refused to give him a hand-wipe because it was against its Halal policy.

Staff said this was because the wipes are soaked in an alcohol-infused liquid. Alcohol is forbidden in the Muslim Holy book, the Quran.

The Leicester-based Federation of Muslim Organisations has called the decision “bizarre”.

Graham said: “They told me it might offend other customers.

“I explained that it wouldn’t affect me. In fact - I told them I like alcohol, so it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

“When they wouldn’t give me one, I was disgusted.

“I will never be going to KFC again.”

The father-of-two added: “I’ve never experienced anything like this before, I couldn’t believe it.

“Why shouldn’t I be allowed a wipe for my hands?

“They use wipes in hospital, what happens when we start being told we can’t have wipes there?

“I just can’t understand it.”

Graham, who lives in Birmingham, is working in Leicester on the construction of a new Muslim community centre in Highfields.

Halal is the Arabic word for ‘lawful’ and relates to what is allowed in the context of Islamic law, but is often used in conjunction with the issue of how meat is dealt with.

A KFC spokesman said the company had been running a halal trial since 2010, in “areas where there has been demand from our customers”, such as the restaurant in St George’s Retail Park.

He said that as a result “a small number of products from our usual menu are not available”, and in addition the St George’s branch had decided not to stock wet wipes that contain alcohol”.

The Mercury understands that the branch is waiting for its stock of alcohol-based wipes to be replaced with lemon-based wipes.

The spokesman added: “Wherever possible, we have taken steps to ensure that our halal restaurants are close to a non-halal store to cater to all of our customers' needs, and, in this case, customers wanting a non-halal option can visit our nearby restaurant in Braunstone.”

"Stunned isn't the right way to most muslims tho,"

That's an assumption Ron.  But anyway, the bottom line is that the vast majority of muslim slaughtermen (or whatever they are called) now pre-stun.  What you may find weird is that one of the main tenets of Halal (allowed) slaughter is the avoidance of cruelty to animals.

How was your gassed chicken??
By:

so the muslim way is to cut the animals throat while it's alive
& we're led to believe muslims are happy for it to be stunned & then have
it's throat cut?

something about that religion tells me that wouldn't be acceptable under
their mental guidance?

so are we being taken for idiots by thinking it's stunned but infact it's
killed the normal disgusting halal way?

Ron - "The Food Standards Agency (FSA) animal welfare survey undertaken in abattoirs across Great Britain during one week in September 2013 showed around 84 per cent of animals slaughtered by the Halal method were stunned before slaughter"

If an animal is stunned and then has its throat cut, the only real difference between that and the standard slaughter process is that the slaughterman recites a prayer.  By the way gassing chickens or your Christmas Turkey is not Halal (allowed) as it offends the animal cruelty rules.

It's more to do with why is there the need for it if
the population that want to eat halal is so small.

I eat meat
but could easily do without it if the only way it
was killed was by having it's throat cut whilst still alive
By:

Fair point Ron, and of course the population is relatively small being limited to Jews and Muslims.  As a simple farmer (with some knowledge of slaughterhouse procedures) it seems the key bit is the ritual (prayers and that). If pre-stunning is in operation, the process is virtually identical.  Stunning doesnt kill the animal (the clue is in the nameWink) what kills it is the cutting process afterwards. That of course assumes that it is not a chicken, turkey or intensively reared duck, then they are mostly gassed. Still you are happy with that processCrazy

Last couple of weeks i've been having a serious think, could easily not
eat meat the way i think we're being miss-led into eating this barbaric way.
i'll never eat indian food again! i always wondered why their friendly in restaurants,

the Quran says...

Quran (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves" against danger, meaning that there are times when a Muslim should appear friendly to non-Muslims, even though they should not feel that way.

Absolute nonsense. Not allowed because they have to cut it's throat and drain the blood.

Ron - I'll assume you are deliberately trying not to understand?

Anyway, I suggest you get your meat from a local butcher, you can be guaranteed that it will have been stunned before being alive when it had its throat cut.  You can also check that his Chickens and Turkeys are simply neck-pulled or head-chopped and not gassed to death (nb - no requirement for pre-stunning of fowl).

Hope this helps.

Halal food is that which adheres to Islamic law

Halal is Arabic for permissible. Halal food is that which adheres to Islamic law, as defined in the Koran.
The Islamic form of slaughtering animals or poultry, dhabiha, involves killing through a cut to the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe.
Animals must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass. During the process, a Muslim will recite a dedication, know as tasmiya or shahada.
There is debate about elements of halal, such as whether stunning is allowed.

why are supermarkets selling halal? if theres a small % that want it
why are they trying to enforce barbaric ways of eating on us?

aka - The RSPCA were convinced enough to publish the numbers, and the data is from 2013 and this % is substantially higher (according to the RSPCA) than all previously available numbers.  One might guess that the % is even higher now, although I think they lump all ritual slaughter together so the numbers may be slanted by the Shechita (Jewish) element.

By the way, which bit of my "By the way gassing chickens or your Christmas Turkey is not Halal (allowed) as it offends the animal cruelty rules" is nonsense.

The RSPCA are afraid, they are afraid for good reason, you don't mess with the religion of peace.

Religion of peace members are sensitive and get upset easily, this causes them to riot and to threaten death on the ones causing offence.

This sensitivity does not extend to beheading or stoning as this is a spectator sport.

Ron - yes absolutely!!.  Akabula (as a vegetarian) and myself (as a carnivore) have had many debates on the subject of meat and the killing/eating thereof.  I am generally in favour of pre-stunning prior to slaughter but do not believe it makes that much difference. The animal is not dead, and therefore it can be argued that this just delays the death process which is pretty instantaneous via the subsequent cutting process.  Remember there are loads of other killing processes that are far more problematic - namely gassing for fowl and poultry.

Re the RSPCA - What is hilarious here is that in previous discussions on Halal, loads of you were quoting the RSPCA's criticism of it as the be all and end all.   Now of course when they post some "facts", they cannot be trusted.LaughLaughLaugh

For what its worth, I dislike the organisation intensely, largely for their lack of rounded knowledge of the countryside.

Most companies fear boycotts, that's why they apologise when some sensitive group get offended.
They fear the commercial consequences.

Ladbrokes stopped selling poppies because a Muslim group objected.
They didnt fear a commercial boycott ( Muslims don't bet ) they capitulated out of a not unreasonable concern for their collective necks.

We know Halal killing is unbelievable cruel,we know how these gents treat humans never mind animals, the RSPCA should be objecting like mad.
They are not because they too have concerns for their necks.
