The old Longbow men did us proud...they were our secret weapon
until firearms were invented Archers helped against the Saracens, although they had them as well But could not stop the Mamluks though, evens the Mongol found that out, the Mongols could fire arrows from the saddle |

Interesting series on BBC4 recently on the Crusades, current thinking is we went out there to reclaim Jerusalem
for Christianity, and by killing Muslims(as well as Jews and Eastern Christians...we could not tell the difference), then all our earthly sins would be forgiven and we would earn our place in Heaven. This was quite genuine. What we claim Muslims do now, and I think at least some of them do, but it is not exclusive to them. |

Watch Dr Warners crusade video - the crusades are very few in number, not even double figures yet Muslim Jihad is in the thousands, he says the crusades was the church eventually fighting back.
It all started in the 1700's after the UK/US war - Muslims attacked merchant shipping in the med and took captives as slaves for ransom - this did actually lead to the forming of the US navy when they became fed up paying the tax for not being attacked - just search barbary coast wars ot barbary coast pirates. |

There no shortage of numbers in the Crusades. The Church did not need to fight back. The Muslims granted them access to the Holy Sepulchre. Jerusalem is not only sacred to the Christians, it is also sacred to the Jews and Muslims. The point I was trying to make, many of the Christians did not expect to return, they were prepared to give their lives to guarantee themselves a place in Heaven. |
