We are/were with Npower who used to send us annual bills. The mrs gave them a bell today as the bill is due again around now and they told us we changed suppliers in March last year. Neither of us have changed suppliers, we would have discussed it and remembered doing so, also we have had no other communication from any other energy firm since then. British gas supply our electric only. Strange one this.

Best advice from me is to just keep schtum!

Be sure to save secure any payment you may assume would have been required, and keep fingers crossed!

If you are still desperate to find out, you need to take samples of the gas and send one to each of the energy providers,
asking them to to acknowledge if it is indeed their gas.

There is a possibility that people in another property contacted the gas company to chance their supplier and they mistakenly changed  yours.

I have experienced this where a flat number was similar to an adjacent house.
