Ironically, it could be the fruit that's the problem.
The reason I say that is that it's very important to wash your hands regularly or at least avoid touching your mouth if you're out and about and cannot. Obviously, I'm only being semi-serious so don't stop eating the fruit but if you eat an apple after touching an infected surface then you could catch something.
I read that vitamin pills are ok but they can lead to the body forgetting how to extract nutrients from natural foodstuffs.

I am not exactly young, and hesitate to say this, as it could be "The Kiss Of Death", but I can't recall the last time I was ill!
A couple of times, last year, I thought I had a cold coming on, but it never happened!
This may sound too radical, for some to get to grips with, but I really believe that alcohol is the answer!
I love my food and (no excuses)I love my vino.
The thing is that germs don't survive in alcohol!
If you have a stomach bug (food poisoning) not sickness for other reasons, the best way to wipe it out, almost instantly, is to consume vinegar and a good slug of your chosen spirit.
As for the vinegar, the best way is pickled beetroot, but any other pickled food may be ok too.
Bugs cannot survive in alcohol!

Getting adequate rest and avoidance of too much stress or developing ways to deal with it are also useful. Be aware of how germs are spread and be diligent. Plenty of hand washing. Some people even carry pump action sprays (which incidentally do often contain alcohol in them). Ever notice if you visit someone in hospital they have similar things for you on entry and exit to the ward?

Not that you can do anything about it but a damn good cold snap for a fortnight would do us all a power of good.
Warmth and damp are breeding grounds for bugs.

I pray for a couple of weeks of massive sub zero temps to, amongst other things, wipe out wasps and aphids and other assorted bugs and, incidentally, for OAPs extraordinary payments of heating support!
That, not for me, but for those who struggle to keep warm during cold spells!
Despite the flooding in York, it has been particularly dry where I am.
My winter bedding and baskets would normally, just about, look after themselves, but having to water every two to three days.

Interesting fact I heard not too many moons ago is why we get more colds in the winter. During the summer we have windows open and the air blows freely through the home. In the winter we tend to keep them closed where bugs fester in the warmth of indoor heating. Apparently, the same bugs are around all year long but in the winter we let them breed. Maybe a few thick jumpers and a day of a nice cool airing to clear them might alleviate some of the problems.

Ever since I was a teenager I've suffered from really nasty throat infections in winter time. Had 3 since November. The phlegm I cough up is truly rancid.
Been bed ridden for 2 days now with a nasty sickness bug. Overtime I eat I puke it up again.
Bloody fed up of it all!

Once you've had a particular virus, you're immune to it. At worst you'll feel a bit down for a day and worried you might have a cold coming on while your immune system goes to work on it. Mostly it's just destroyed without you even knowing you've caught it. And there's the bonus that until your body deals with it you're capable of unknowingly infecting everyone else.
It's the sole reason Aunty Post (and I - 54 years and counting) go years between colds. We've simply had most of them already.
It's also a big reason why lifestyle changes appear to work. You do it AFTER you've had loads of colds, so you've become immune to all those viruses anyway.

Agree about the need for frosts to kill viruses. Also plenty of draughts and ventilation in your house, preferably accompanied by a wood burner, or some other solid-fuel source of heat, to dry out the air. Insulation and central heating are just a moist breeding ground for bugs (and mould and general deterioration of the building - nothing is more expensive in the long run than insulating your home and eliminating draughts).

Sorry to hear that Mr Eboue - hope you are on the mend soon
From what you say it sounds like you have got a deep rooted medical problem that gets triggered every time winter/cold weather comes around.
Just guessing as there are many things that could be responsible for starting a throat infection - head colds, ear infections, dehydration, blocked sinuses. Something is causing it, you just need to work out what it is
This may sound daft but do you leave the central heating on overnight? It can cause the sinus, throat and chest to dry out and could be the cause of your rancid phlegm
SBTW is right - getting older does help, not just because you will have had most viruses but because you get a bit wiser. I always wrap up, wear a hat, keep warm. Eat more fruit during winter especially oranges, satsumas for the extra vitamin C boost. If it's a sunny day, doesn't matter how cold, get outside for a few hours and get some sun on your face. All helps to boost your immune system.

Chit chat has provided the definitive answer to this distressing affliction.
Grow old, become a hermit and live in a draughty barn stocked with oranges in Murmansk, crouched in front of a log fire during the long winter nights.
