Because I am so popular I have nineteen FB "fiends"!

I know it's probably a young person's interest but, how the hell do they trawl, answer, or delete their responses?

A girl at the gym has hundreds of "friends"!!!
You would have to be full time on FB to handle that!

Have to wonder what the cost is to employers, where staff are sneakingly on FB, or any other social media sites, all day!

My little son aged 17 has over 4000 friends, I doubt he knows about 5% of them personally.

Thinly veiled I go to the Gym and spoke to a girl their thread.

You seem to have got a hang of the Facebook thing better than you think. Laugh

I just don`t get Facebook. It`s a rather sad thing. People posting photos of what they had for breakfast and getting excited if they get so many "likes". That guy Suckerbrook or whatever you call him is a genius though, making billions out of people`s vanity and loneliness.

Facebook does for the image of Woman what Chit Chat does for the image of middle aged men.

Post that you're moving house on the weekend and you'd love some help shifting.

That'll give you a more accurate guide on the friend count.

I like Facebook

I've hooked up with some good people from way back 'in the day', some new people who are decent human beings I've found out and some who have taught me a thing or twenty about the human condition - so big shout out to Facebook.

However, we do present an idealised, marketed notion of ourselves on social media (and I'm as guilty as anyone of doing this).

It was only through watching a programme on Loneliness featured on BBC recently that I realised just how powerful a medium this is in ramming home to some how it's not a 24 hour party life for them and Loneliness, very far from being the preserve of the elderly, is a very real construct for my generation and younger, who don't feel they are living the idealised lifestyle we like to promote on social media and feel there's always a better party going on somewhere else to which they haven't been invited.

What's the answer?

Damned if I know.

A conscious decision to avoid posting the minutiae of one's life and heralding the tying of ones shoelaces as some triumph of the soul, I suppose.

I only joined about 14 months ago, and I think it’s great.  Had resisted for years but the clincher was that I was missing out on loads of pictures and updates on my nephews and nieces and sisters and that – I would get a bit of info via email, but it was apparent there was loads more on facebook.  Like rtb I have got in touch with loads of people whom I thought I’d never see or hear of again.  Get some w@nkers clearly using it to show off their great life but not too difficult to ignore.  A couple of people I have had to “unfollow” because they just post too much b.ollox.  Haven’t yet unfriended anyone.  We have a “secret” zone of some sort too that my sister set up where we put up family photos of children and that.  My eldest sister is real strict won’t have any pictures of her kids on facebook except in this secret area.

Not sure it is a youngster’s game anymore mind, once the kids’ parents started getting in on the gig they seem to have all fked off elsewhere. The main thing is, of course, that it is great for stalking.

Mrs mememe joined Facebook a year or so ago ... uses it to keep in touch with family, photos, family news etc. Likes it.

I didn't join as I wasn't interested. I don't like it. rather come on the forum and chit chat with the wise forumites.

Maybe I'll join and friend her, or whatever you do and see what she's up to!

Oh, sorry, go to go ... "yes, dear, I'll be in in a minute to do the washing up ... no, no, no, it's not Betfair ... just trying to join Facebook"ScaredScaredScaredScaredScared

I have never used this site or any social networking site, I'm in touch with everyone I want to be in touch with via phone, email and in person, and more importantly, I'm not prostituting my life online by laying bare every single aspect of my past and present to people who are not just friends but connections or acquaintances who'd ordinarily you'd only nod your head to if you past them in the street, that's what facebook has become, a vein crusade to flaunt one's life to the masses, Andy Warhol was close to the mark, though I would hazard a guess it has decreased people's sense of wellbeing rather than increase it, watching and worrying about what everyone else is doing and comparing it to your own life is unhealthy.
There should be a similar site however for families who do live miles apart and need to stay in touch, stalking people you went to school with or exes however, is sad, tragic and weird and smacks of voyeurism Grin

Thinly veiled I go to the Gym and spoke to a girl their thread.

It sounds like a good life, but I'm actually a cleaner there, and Sharron is another of the cleaners....

i'm up to 5,235 friends at the last count  Excited

i manage this by allotting 4 hours every day rain or shine to facebook and simply adding friends .

i just ask random folk who i've never met before -  the trick is ,once you get one new friend you can invite all their friends to be friends.

i've never felt so popular  Cool
