The “asylum seeker” from Kabul in Afghanistan talks to Sky News (above) on the same day the entire British media went into over drive about wristbands that migrants are asked to wear in order to be identified so that they can be given free food.

I heard this on the radio.
The wearers - as in the red doors incident in Middlesbrough - were getting abused by numpties once they were recognised as asylum seekers. Two things: I'd like to think if I'd be grateful to any country that was putting ne up in a hotel and feeding me and my family, rather than criticising an imperfect system, but the exaggerated sense of entitlement of seemingly many of these individuals, beggars belief. Secondly, haven't boneheads got better things to do with their time than abuse immigrants? Clearly not. |

tell them they are to be deported, wristbands would be the least of their problems.

Yellow stars, pink triangles, red wristbands. Who wouldn't be in favour?
By:
Precisely.
I mean, I bought a pink wristband - and that cured breast cancer. I'm just amazed this approach to healthcare isn't more widely used. |
By:
If you don't like the wrist band I wonder if it would be against your human rights to put on a shirt or at this time of year jumper or coat so it isn't immediately visible to any half wit who thinks it is funny to abuse such people. That said if comparing risking having my arms and legs blown off from where I'm supposed to have fled to having some numpty shouting his mouth off maybe I'd choose the latter. Especially given the fact that they aren't being raped like people in Cologne and indeed our own northern towns.
Anybody who compares it to the Jewish treatment in Nazi Germany isn't very bright. |

For Decades The British Public has had to listen to Politicians saying how well we Integrate with Foreigners and Welcome them,
Well we Brits Don't, And while the Rich will live behind their Shuttered Windows, Big Fences and paid for Security, It is all going to end Badly ![]() |

Hmmm what should I get outraged by today?......quick check of the the Guardian website...Wristbands!

Anybody who compares it to the Jewish treatment in Nazi Germany isn't very bright. It's stigmatisation. Not sure how you can't see that. Incidentally, a Jewish member of this forum made a comparison to Nazi Germany a couple of weeks ago and you took him to task for it. Weird how he sees the similarities but you don't. |

Can I just say that if anyone on here wants to buy me a new Bentley, I'll gladly suffer the "Nazi" stigma of having to wear a wristband to identify myself. Even if it's a pink one (wristband or Bentley).
First come first served. |

It's a disgraceful imposition on them which sets them apart from the rest of society in this country.
They should be encouraged to dress and look like Brits so that they can integrate fully into the British society and not feel like outcasts from an alien culture. They men folk should be encouraged to grow unfeasibly long beards and walk around the streets in nightshirts and pyjama bottoms and the women should wear hijabs, niqabs and burkas. Then no-one would be able to tell the difference between them and your average Joe from Chippenham. ![]() |

By:
Next they will say people holding the correct migrant papers are being stigmatised, this loony crap will never end.

It's stigmatisation. Not sure how you can't see that.
I don't draw the comparison because I think it through logically and seek to look at why something is done rather than jump to conclusions because it is a government I don't like. Lots of people have to prove they are entitled to access various services in this country. Are they being stigmatisation? It may be a clumsy way of checking someones entitlement. There may be better ways of doing it but as I said comparing it to the precursor to the holocaust strikes me as akin to some form of histrionic disorder. One identified their victims to make it easier to wipe them off the face of the earth. Another has allowed these people to come to this country because they claim to be in danger (that's one for another debate). They get housed, fed, clothed etc and then often get to bring their families over. There is evidence that plenty then live a life on benefits smoking big fat metaphorical cigars benefiting from a plethora of services they haven't contributed a penny to. So your rationale for comparing this to Nazi Germany and the virtual wiping clear of Europe of all Jews is what exactly? |
By:
I would've thought my 'yellow stars...' post made that clear. 'Clumsy' is a generous choice of word but I'll go with it.
By:
That seemed an example of the histrionic disorder I was referring to. To equate two such greatly different examples just seems bizarre to me.
By:
I'm not equating them. I said there are similarities. To be clear, I don't think our beloved government is planning on exterminating the Muslims currently residing here.
By:
Do you have an objection to people being required to provide evidence they are entitled to access services?
By:
None whatsoever.
By:
I don't really see the similarity. As I say one is easily covered to be revealed when accessing a service and the other had to be worn so that was visible on pain of death so that they could be dehumanised.
By:
On the news that it's been scrapped.
By:
I already said I don't equate them, but they shouldn't have to cover themselves. Why not just brand them?
By:
Common sense prevails then. Clumsy indeed.
By:
Why not just brand them?
Obviously we see the world differently mikael but from my perspective it is the attitude you're displaying on here which is causing so many of our structural problems as a country. The authorities are scared of their own shadow in many cases constantly running from one lobby group or another. Yet strangely there are a lot of people out there who fall through the cracks of society and there is so little uproar that it is allowing the government carte blanche to truly stigmatise those people. |
By:
I think you're overstating my outrage but, even if you're not, I'd hope you'd concede that coming up with such an idiotic scheme is almost bound to contribute to people-like-me's histrionics!
By:
I find someone being outraged by something like this troubling. We are incredibly kind to refugees.
By:
I think it probably is going to lead to some people to be up in arms but from my perspective it's time to go all Clint Eastwood on people wh have hysterical tendencies. Narrow the eyes. Bite down on the cheroot and carry on.

By:
If I was really outraged, I'd have called at least three people a c*nt by now. That's what we lefties do!

How on earth are the Wimbers Championships going to cope now that it's been claimed that these easily identifiable wristbands are supposedly demeaning to the wearer?
I've been going there for years and wristbands get issued to the people at the front of the Daily Queue to identify them as eligible for a place on the Show Courts. I'm such a sad case I've still got my garish bright pink wristband as a souvenir from the one time I got there early enough to qualify for Court 2. If memory serves me right they also issued me with a short term 'pass-out'/'re-entry' wristband one year when I needed to go back to the car for something. Should I have felt demeaned and phoned up The Guardian with some phoney sob story? Is it too late to seek compo for Pretendy Hurt Feelings or bring the perpetrators in front of the European Courts? |
By:
Helpfully though the wristbands did at least made such people easily identifiable, so the rest of us could avoid engaging with them at all costs.
Sounds like a good idea in your case. |
By:
Let's just f*cking 'brand' them like a steer, centre forehead should be discreet enough.
By:
This story is farcical.
How do these idiots expect the authorities to identify who should receive the support and services we are generously providing to them? Clearly we can't give them some king of identity document to confirm they are entitled to our generous tax payer funded support otherwise next weeks headline in the Guardian will be that Refugees are being treated like second World War Jews by being forced to carry identity cards with them and the females are being humiliated and shamed by being forced to show their faces. Nobody is forcing them to wear these bands. They have a choice. I can see the Guardian headline in a couple of months. "Refugees forced to queue like cattle outside Job Centre Plus at 9am every second Tuesday in scenes similar to Dachua". |

Just give them a British passport, NHS number, National insurance number, Pension, House and benefits.
That should make them shut the f*ck up. |
