I was just going to say he reported from far flung places from the comfort of his lounge, but he was getting on a bit.
He was great anyway.

I'd like to think that Jack and Richie B are now reunited in the afterlife, continuing their private Naps competition, starting right away with this afternoon's National Hunt action.

Yes Kenny...A Warwickshire man through and through until his well publicised falling out with the committee in 2008.Excellent broadcaster and Cricketer.Seems as if one a day falls from the perch this Month.

I think this is an appropriate thread to point out that my brother in law's brother opened the bowling for Yorkshire with Freddie Trueman in the late 50s, seeing as Fred features on that video that I've just provided the link for.

You won't have heard of him as he only played about a dozen times before a shoulder imjury put an end to his County career.
Christopher Wood (cricketer, born 1934)
Christopher Harland Wood (23 July 1934 – 28 June 2006) was an English first-class cricketer, who played four matches of first-class cricket for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1959,[1] against Essex, Hampshire, Derbyshire and the touring Indian team. He also played for Yorkshire against Ireland in the same year, without success.
Born in Manningham, Bradford, Yorkshire, England, Wood was a right arm fast medium bowler, who took eleven wickets at an average of 29.00, with a best of 4 for 39 on debut against Essex; and a right-handed late order batsman who scored 22 runs at 7.33, with a best score of 10. He also took one catch.[1]
Wood died in June 2006, aged 71.[1]

When i used to play for my local club Loughton in the 70's we played Westcliff(who Bailey played for after leaving Essex). It was a midweek cup match and i was fielding at leg slip.Second ball Bailey clipped the ball straight to me and i spilled a dolly...Bailey went on to score a match winning century and then snubbed me in the bar after the game.Horrible man.

I stayed in Westcliffe with some pals when we holidayed in Southend in '76.
Spend every night at TOTS. What a nightclub that was.

Love hearing his voice, brings back so many happy memories of watching cricket on the beeb in the early nineties. That thing with Aggers and Trueman and Jack Bannister is indeed brilliant. A shame he didn't ever really get any of the good gigs after The beeb lost test cricket. SKY seemed to just go with ex captains/ex legends of the game for their comms team which is a shame when most(Benaud and Boycott being notable exceptions) of the best comms/pundits were not proper great players. He would have been a great addition to the TMS team, much prefer him to bloody Blowers. RIP Jack Bannister.
