Netflix series that everyone seems to be talking about

Remarkable story, well captured.  Cracking first few episodes with some monumental twists, felt it dragged a bit for the last few episodes.

Felt a bit short changed and manipulated when I belatedly heard abut all the relevant evidence left out of the documentary.
Report tobywong. January 22, 2016 9:51 PM GMT
guilty as charged ozy imho , though evidence def manipulated I think he definitely felt he had a get out of jail free card which he subsequently tried to play . Anyway , not in the same league as The Jinx or The Staircase as true crime docs go .

I agree, Toby.

Will look up the Jinx and Staircase, thanks.

One of the lawyers from Making a Murderer is on the Ray Darcy show tonight for those with Irish tv.

Very addictive programme , could easily have sat and watched all 10 episodes back to back.

I always thought cases were thrown out for any technical infringement , but the police and lawyers seemed to be untouchable.

The coverage was biased to ensure your interest and rooting for the defendants , with what appear to be important aspects not mentioned at all . e.g. phone calls.

Reminds me of when I did jury service , i thought then and even more so after this programme........you really wouldn't want to be innocent and accused in the judicial system.

Anyone interested in this should watch "the jinx" it's an incredible and bizzare story, much better than Making a murderer imo.

Just watched the Jinx, truly amazing true story, how he got off after killing and chopping a body up hell only knows! and the last few mins when he says "I killed em all" and arrested soon after, you couldnt make it up! will check out this other show now...

The Jinx was excellent.

Why the feck would someone who has jumped bail and is on the run with $30,000 in cash in the car steal a sandwich? Get caught by the security guards then the police recognise him Laugh

The last episode was truly amazing too.

He was just so 100% guilty of everything, his wife, friends murder, nexr door murder...yet his money and idiot cops, scum lawyers helped him get away with everything, in the end he was that cocky he even ended up doing a dvd commentary on the movie of the dissapearance of his wife starring Kirsten Dunst! he bloody killed her in real life!

I can see him admitting to everything at court this summer for his final bit of infamy!

The paradise lost trilogy probably provides a better story of the case anfeild , I started out convinced of their innocence but again having researched extensively online I am not so sure now.

I watched the first episode of Making A Murderer and didn't fancy watching another nine episodes of (what I presumed) the same thing. The TV channel ID showed a dumbed down version at the weekend all fitted into 45 minutes. I feel as though I got the gist of the story just by watching that.

I watched Talhotblonde a few years ago and thought that was very good. Another documentary I enjoyed was The Imposter.

I've just noticed that The Jinx is on Sky Boxsets. I've just downloaded all six episodes to watch over the weekend. I agree with Oz though about the spoilers for it on here!!

I watched Making a Murderer and thought it was great ( though agree the last couple of post trial episodes were a bit flat ) .

I was outraged that the police fitted up 2 innocent men.

I knew fk all about any of it before watching , and was careful to avoid any articles etc about it til i'd seen it all.

Then i google it and pretty soon i was outraged at what the filmakers had done .

The stuff they left out was jaw dropping . In the programme they just present it like ..... Guy runs an auto salvage/ 2nd hand car type business , so naturally he gets photographers from Auto Trader over to take photos of the cars .He phones up , asks for a photographer , and they just randomly send Teresa Halbach .She goes there ,takes the pictures , then drives off and never seen again.

Then you learn that she had been there before , and had apparently complained about his behavour  . He phones them and asks 'for the girl you sent last time' (why would it matter to him who they sent if he just wants photos of the car ?) , gives a false name so she won't know that it is him asking for her (rather than the however many others lived there) , and then on the day phones her twice withholding his number , then a 3rd time without blocking his number , at a time when -if he is guilty - he knows shes never gonna see it . Apparently he also initially said she had never turned up - which makes the 3rd call look like establishing that he wondered why - but of course later said she came , did the job , and left .

The excuse for leaving this out was that the trial had hundreds of hours of testimony and so they only included the most crucial stuff . But that is absolutely crucial , as it is strong evidence that the police could not have made up. And of course they found time for the irrelevant sex scandal of the prosecutor.

I do think a lot of the evidence was likely planted . The cop calling in the registration plate of Teresa's car on November 3 when it not 'discovered' until November 5th on the seventh  search of the Avery place , did suggest to me that they found it somewhere else and maybe then waited for a moment to park it somewhere more incriminating .

tbh though it is just harder to get excited about the police fitting up a guilty guy rather than an innocent one.

Agree with the above. I think the local pd handled it atrociously and made more than enough foul ups to get the case thrown out but let's remember it's a tv show and they chose what to film, edit and ignore.

Nearly always the same e.g. serial and its always amazing to see that most focus on the small % that disputable , not the remaining indisputable which is enough for beyond a reasonable doubt in most cases .

Without regard "Making A Murderer" one thing I found very disturbing was how the victims brother and her ex boyfriend deleted her voicemails, after "guessing" the passwordCrazy ... I also found the brother very odd and swarmy for want of a better word - there was something not right with him at all

Following on from the new series is anyone still comfortable with who they have locked up for this horrendous crime ?
Report Callisto-moon October 24, 2018 11:13 AM BST
I think thst there is reasonable doubt with what went on.
Mr kratz and his press conferences certainly made them guilty befoe trial.
Plus the cofession was crazy the incriminating parts were basically fed to brendan.

the bit I dont get is why would Steven Avery o this when he was about to get a lump of money tht
would sort him ut for life.

The fact that there was no real attention on the ex was shocking, the police just thought it was avery and then went after him, apparently the ex was never asked for an alibi of where he was.
I swing between Avery being guilty or not guilty but the main flaw is how shody the police work was adnd how much dodgy stuff has been accepted.

For instance the car key being found after many searches of the room. If it was not planted and was there all the time should the previous people who searched there not be sacked as they are not fit to do the job??

Kratz ..... OMFG.. That man appears to be a key player in this event. Very easy to question everything he says. Basically you know when he is lying as his lips move
Report Callisto-moon October 24, 2018 11:34 AM BST
It looks like a huge fit up but you would not put your life on them being innocent.
The main problem is that there is reasonable doubt.

Just seen the episode about the bullet that also makes it very interesting.

A lot of the dna would seem to be planted as would the blood.
I don't think either of them will get out any time soon though.

Also i dont think the prosecution really want to be in court opposite that Kathleen Zellner as you get the impression she will rip them to shreds.
Report Blackrock October 24, 2018 11:51 AM BST
One thing being guilty of a crime and another trying to prove it in court. No doubt in my mind Avery is guilty, but the DNA findings were so obviously planted.

The police just wanted to make sure Avery was convicted by fair means or foul.
Report Callisto-moon October 24, 2018 12:39 PM BST
yes that's the big sticking point blackrock.
I do swing between guilty and not guilty but the simple fact it looks like a huge set up
just makes the conviction dodgy.
some of the evidence that Netflix had left out of the first series has been trashed by Zellner.
I wonder how much of the evidence is strong?
One point that also bothers me with all the machinery at Averys disposal why would he just park the car up?
why not totally dispose of it in a crusher.
Report Callisto-moon October 24, 2018 12:42 PM BST
I'm sure with he set up they have there the car cold pretty much disappear.
they claim he cleared the garage of all her dna plus his bedroom where she was cut to bits
yet he left the number plates on her car parked in his junk yard.
two quite contradictory situations.
expert in some areas total clown in others.
Report Blackrock October 24, 2018 12:54 PM BST
Of what ive seen in Series 2, Zellner concentrates on the blood/DNA evidence. If she can prove that it was planted or unsafe in any way, that will get Avery an acquital in any court of law.

Doesn't mean he is innocent mind you, but its enough to get him off.

Of what ive seen of Zellner, if she was prosecuting Avery he would be bang to rights. I'd like her on my side if ever it came to it.
Report John.W.Henry. October 24, 2018 12:54 PM BST
The total blanking of using the coroner is the coffin nail for me.

That alone should be enough of a moot point for Zellner to crucify them with
