Cracking film. Best film of the year but won't win best film. DeCaprio's one i think is a shoe in. But i would highly recommend seeing this one. Shows how the crash happened but its put together very well. Some great acting in it. Bale is class as usual. Steve Carell is excellent as well. Great film in a year for the first time in a while that there has been at least three excellent films. Spotlight, the big short, the revenant are quality.

In April 2015, Navinder Singh Sarao, a London-based point-and-click trader, was arrested for his alleged role in the flash crash.
Nav Sarao Futures Limited, allegedly made more than $40 million in profit from trading during the Flash Crash.

Bale reminds me of Gary Oldman always seems unhinged. His best film is American Psycho.

Margin Call is very good. Inside Job(documentary) is excellent.

Never heard of Arbitrage will take a look. Richard Gere Susan Sarardon looks good.

glad you liked it anfeild, went with a couple of friends from out of town who knew little about the subprimes and they liked it and were dutifully outraged etc.
however it was a deliberately misleading narrative with some fairly blatant political propaganda shoved in, and i get the feeling star wars (the other option showing) would have been more true to life.
the carrell performance was a bit comical, like a mopey, pouting child moaning about how it's all so unfair, was almost expecting him to run off and tell on all these meanies to his mum.

highlights:
the clumsy line shoved in at the end about someone blaming it all on immigrants and poor people, almost like someone went to the trouble of making a multi million dollar movie just to have a go at something trump never said Laugh

the pub scene in england which apparently was the only place a multi millionaire could get wifi (could happenConfused) but was expecting eliza doolittle to waltz in with some proper cockney whatchmicaulit knock it on the ed mate wots you yankies onabout apples and pears wot wot.

the general premise that short sellers and the creators of toxic derivative markets who were either years off in their predictions or blundered into these instuments are implied as the heroes of the piece.

An observation ...the big problem with all the Banks/Financial Institutions is GREED.
Look back in History... every so often they (Banks/Financial Institutions) get suckered in with the promise of BIG RETURNS and jump on a bandwagon. In my lifetime we've had :-
1) The South American Banking Crisis (caused the demise of Midland Bank).
2) L.T.C.M. (Long Term Capital Management) nearly brought down the whole of the Western Banking system.
3) 2008 Crash ..Banks trading CLO's (Collateralised Loan Obligations)  and CDO's (Collateralised Debt Obligations)
Collateral ..what phucking Collateral - grossly over pricd American Property nicely parcelled up for Banks to trade !
What's next ????

The Big Short is now favourite for the best picture Oscar after winning the Producers Guild award. Chit chat leads the way! Hope you all got the 10/1; I did not.
Report ImSoLuckyLucky! • January 24, 2016 12:24 PM GMT
Saw it Saturday morning
Give it 7.5 to 8
Its not a comedy
The film flies by
Some of the actors talk direct to the camera
Bit like "Lovejoy"
The theme reminds me of The Hustle
Entertaining

Didnt think it would win an Oscar
Lay the 5-4

"Didnt think it would win an Oscar"

Surprised what films do win sometimes. Very surprised BIRDMAN won last year. I didn't really get that film at all, flew right over me.

Watched it last night. Thought it was very good, mixture of black comedy and seriousness. Bale was excellent
Report Mikael D'Haguenet • January 25, 2016 4:50 PM GMT
I nearly watched this last night but we ended up watching American Psycho again instead (sh!te but Bale typically excellent.) Didn't realise he was in this too.
