she is 63, just had a stroke, can barely walk or speak, takes her 20 minutes to walk up the road. She went to the DWP to find out about ESA , disablity etc and was sent for assessment. She has been declared FIT for work. Meaning she will have to fulfill her JSA obligain, 30 hours job search, workfare, sanctioned for anything even 2 miytes late for interview. This is a fckig disgrace how this can happen to someone like her. By hw way, she has worked all her life before the stroke.

My friend David was about 50% blind, arthiritic, had a serious stroke and was diabetic. This guy did 35 years in the steel works and the very same DWP bastards hounded him right up to retirement age, which was only a year or two ago. He died recenty, RIP Dave.

Can't their GP or hospital consultant do anything about it?

I can understand with shirkers, but these 2 examples must be heartbreaking for selves and families.

Presumably contactor company (ATOS or whoever) is incentivised to reject everything ... disgrace.
Report jollyswagman • January 20, 2016 2:53 PM GMT
pandora that is awful.

hopefully with physio she can get better in time.
Report Early Morning Riser • January 20, 2016 3:05 PM GMT
She should appeal the DWP decision. IDS should be ashamed of what he is doing to the disabled. But you will have some Tory come along from the politics forum to say that IDS is doing the right thing and they agree with him.
Report Crisp77 • January 20, 2016 3:11 PM GMT
At least she has her state pension to help pay some bills.

The twunt enjoys it.. Can't ye just see him as a land baron in the days of Billy the Conq whipping serfs for his own amusement?

Clearly something had to be done about the abuse of the system ... I'm sure we all know or know of individuals and families who just play the system and are not really ill and have no intention of working.

That's just not fair to those who do work and pay their fair dues.

But what is wrong is the layers between the policy makers and the public who suffer ... these are the odious civil servants and their agents.

Having said that IDS does deserve a slap on his head for being a politician.

I assume they are British...easy targets.
Report rob_dylan • January 20, 2016 3:34 PM GMT
Yeah I thought if you were 63 you were pension age anyway.
Report lfc1971 • January 20, 2016 3:38 PM GMT
Quite possible if you are British and have paid taxes and worked and never claimed anything for 30, 40 years to find yourself being called a racist.
Report Desmond Orchard • January 20, 2016 3:53 PM GMT
Remember when threads with these type of titles used to have a 'spaffed on her chebs' conclusion?
Chit chat becoming over-politicised and dreary, imo.
Report Johnny_Mustang • January 20, 2016 3:57 PM GMT
I was expecting a similar outcome to be fair Desmond. The place ain't what it used to be.

At 63 she should be looking at Pension Credit rather than ESA.

ESA isn't for people who are old enough for state pension.
Report Early Morning Riser • January 20, 2016 4:06 PM GMT
Pandora, Also those people who are found UNFIT FOR WORK and are claiming ESA will HAVE to write a CV out and job search when ESA is transferred to universal credit. CrazyCrazy

Report rob_dylan • January 20, 2016 4:49 PM GMT
I did a little check and if you were a woman born in 1952 then you should already be receiving a pension.  Pandora talking out his ringpiece as usual.

Dragon ...

apparently it's because we're all living longer ... well the ones that don't die are.

And because we've got so many immigrants claiming (77%, I read somewhere).

Just can't afford it.

Yes rob I take these stories with a pinch of salt as well.

I know shirkers who have been on the disability bandwagon for years.

There are still plenty getting away with it.

lfc1971,
Neither are you.

How they behave when they're being assessed and how they behave out of sight of the assessors are two different things.
It's not hard to pull the wool over a doctor's eyes.

Then there is money involved on both sides, and the doctors are making more, they may not be totally impartial.

Report mad mad moon • January 20, 2016 8:56 PM GMT
As Rob says, even if she was 63 yesterday she could have claimed pension from Nov 2015.

Seems a huge jump in retirement age for a difference of being born a few months later.

For women Born 1st Jan 1952 Ret Age 61
             to   1st Dec 1954 Ret Age 66

Pandora should do more research before he makes up these stories.

This is a fckig disgrace how this can happen

I can remember another disgrace from 2015. A forumite on Chit Chat started a thread offering odds on the number of seats that UKIP would win at the 2015 General Election. Many forumites accepted those odds and placed the bets accordingly, in full public and transparent view for all on Chit Chat to see.

We still await settlement and payment.

I'm sure the forumite concerned will want to inform us how he intends to honour the bets and right the wrong, given his outrage at the 'disgrace' concerning the 63 year old lady.

Normally, one titled 'Bumped into my Mum's mates….' would involve some dirty MILF and fair amount of inter-generational sex during school lunch break.
