If you want to avoid the terrific acting skills of Leonardo DiCaprio... see the version from 1971 - man in the wilderness starring Richard Harris. It's based on the same story. So leo's film is yet another retread.

Jeremiah Johnson is another seventies film that will probably be repeated.

why nobody has yet mentioned that there is a previous version is a mystery. the older version has always been one of my favourite seventies films.

Watched the Revenant last night on my Kodi box. Didn't enjoy it at all. Over 2 hours of watching Dicaprio crawl along the ground, then realising he can walk, followed by another bout of amnesia and dragging himself along the ground again. Whole film felt like one long struggle. Maybe the feeling of the struggle was the filmmakers message, but it did not translate into a good movie experience IMO.

Jeremiah Johnson was on tv over christmas.

I saw that as a B movie back in the days when you had a supporting feature.
