Correct answer is drizzled with maple syrup ... yummy,

I wonder what's going to come second (apparently some have salt on it!)

And the scottishers have it mixed with leaves and twigs Laugh

Post dog walk, Flahavans jumbo oats made with half milk half water, spoon of honey and if it's really cold a wee tot of nippy sweetie - lovely stuff.

The mutts are quite partial to a dollop of it in their bowls too.

some very good efforts for second place there ... but all seems to be with sweet things (the additive, not you chit chatters)...

I'm sure that I heard somewhere that salt was preferred by some ... maybe my dad told me that when I was little and we had run out of golden sysrup and there was only enough left in the tin for him!

Mick ... I like the way you're thinking ... with honey or brown sugar or anything.

Answer carefully ... you could go to the top of the leader board Excited

I just don't get the water and salt thing. I believe that's the way the Scots do it!

Has to be really creamy for me and with Golden Syrup, Maple Syrup, Honey, or some good jam.

Correct answer and a little more explanation would benefit those not convinced.

Make it with: traditional oats or ready made stuff, water or milk, sugar or salt, microwave or slow-cook, add some honey, syrup, jam, blueberries, strawberries and cherries are also good. Some nuts like nuts as well.

Then carefully scape the mess out of the pan and bin the lot.

Get out bacon and eggs, fry and enjoy a proper breakfast.

Report mememe • January 20, 2016 9:25 PM GMT
Charlie ....

Nooooo ... bacon and egg will kill you.

Porridge oats very healthy option - oats good for the heart.

Scottishers live on porridge and the evidence of an healthy nation is there for all to see!

That wee krankie woman is a radiant picture of health - a bonnie wee lassie,

And as for that Salmond chappie, a mere slip of a lad, hardly a sliver of fat on him.

Too many eggs and you'll get high cholesterol and too much bacon and you'll have arse cancer.

Congrats, you're on the leaderboard - not top, mind

I like Quaker Oats that you do in the microwave.

Don't like Original (plain) but ok with cinnamon, apple and blackberry or the cranberry one.
Report Foinavon • January 21, 2016 10:46 AM GMT
Three quarters teacup Aldi rolled oats and 2 teacups of cold water in a bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes stirring halfway through.
Perfect. No need to pay over the odds for brand names or sachets of "quick cook oats". With some of these you are paying 10 times the price for no benefit other than they have measured out a portion for you. Surely you are capable of doing that yourself?

3/4 water, 1/4 milk, with a pinch of salt stirred in after porridge is ready (helps to bring out the flavour of the oats according to the Scots - and apparently the Scots don't add milk, just water), honey on top + little brown sugar, also this cold weather splash of whisky mixed in at the end. And make it in a saucepan, don't nuke it in the microwave.

Porridge oats are porridge oats, whether they are called "Scottish" and come from Sainsbury's, or where the fek hell they come from.

Do yourself a favour and look at them in swanky packaging or just, for instance, Morrison's Saver packaging and they look exactly the same!

Why, I hear you cry?

Because they are that's why.

The same goes for very many other products, so why not at least check them out?
Nothing to lose, even if you don't like them, as they are cheap, cheap , cheap (unlike emulsion paint at £44 for 2.5 litres, which isn't)!
Report Aunty Post • January 21, 2016 4:01 PM GMT
I find that three quarters of a cup to one and a half cups of milk is spot on.

Also, it's a good idea to put it in a none stick milk pan and leave in the fridge, the evening before.
