Qatari billionaires become Lords of the manor: Emir’s new 550-acre estate is the latest British icon snapped up in the relentless march of the oil-rich royals who own more of London than the Queen
Lavish 545-acre Eilean Aigas estate, which sits on its own island, has reportedly been bought by Qatari royal family
Sprawling estate is one of a number of famous British assets which have been snapped up by the tiny Gulf state
Qatar already has Harrods, Canary Wharf and the Shard in its armoury, as well as Heathrow Airport and Sainsbury's
Autocratic oil and gas-rich state now one of world's richest countries and owns more of London than Crown Estate

It already owns more of London than the Crown Estate. But Qatar is believed to have cast its real estate net even further afield after snapping up a spectacular Highlands mansion in Inverness-shire for £7million.
The 545-acre Eilean Aigas estate, which sits on its own island and is known locally as the modern day Balmoral, has reportedly been bought by the Qatari royal family after nearly four years on the market.
The property, situated close to Beauly, is registered to an offshore company, based in Jersey. Savills, the estate agent which sold the estate, declined to comment, but a source close to the sale said the new owner was a Qatari royal.

If the reports are correct, the sprawling estate becomes one of a number of famous British assets which have been snapped up by the tiny Gulf state as part of its ever-growing influence in the UK.
Thanks to its sovereign wealth fund of more than $250 billion, Qatar already has Harrods, Canary Wharf and the Shard in its armoury, along with significant shares in Heathrow Airport, Sainsbury's and the London Stock Exchange.

Sell as much of your land as possible to foreigners, then impose a massive tax on landowners. Easy money!
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:01 PM GMT
that may not work
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:06 PM GMT
better to sell everything in Britain, give every British person 5 million each, then we all leave the country and leave them to it.
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:09 PM GMT
Sell everything and give everyone an even share!

This is our country......we stay here and defend it......politicians who sell it to corrupt foreigners should be chucked in the slammer for 10 years !
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:25 PM GMT
yes, but we could sell up and not give the politicians any money...let them stay here with the foreigners.
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:28 PM GMT
anyone who wants to stay here could do so if they so chose....but 5 million each for the rest.
Report The Leopard • January 17, 2016 12:31 PM GMT
We have a great country with a natural moat.

All foreign buyers should have to prove their money was amassed legally.

Over 1200 migrant workers died building the world cup facilities in Qatar !
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:33 PM GMT
That's very commendable Leopard, but 5 million in your bank account and the rest of the world to see and live in?
Report The Leopard • January 17, 2016 12:40 PM GMT
You would lose all the money in a year !

More like £500,000 anyway.
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:43 PM GMT
Ah I see you are giving it some thought, counting how much Happy...I have been very conservative in my estimates

Will never happen, just gradually all the cash rich foreigners will buy up all the good stuff, bribe our politicians, (Not Jeremy's lot oc) and take control of the country.
Report lfc1971 • January 17, 2016 12:51 PM GMT
Laugh yes but its the principle, it could and I would say should be done. It would be a beautiful and interesting experiment..can you imagine the though of Britain closing down and everyone leaving.....how wonderful it would be.

Report The Leopard • January 17, 2016 1:36 PM GMT
Sharia law has no legal status in this country.....no one has to abide by it.

Do you think they bought these places as a business investment - they already have more than enough money - it's their way of gaining a foothold in the country, slowly gaining control, mass immigration is another way.

Buying up property is the same as conquering it with an army, it't the same result, they now own the land.

They will build a mosque, this is what they do on conquered land (why do you think they wanted to build a mosque at ground zero). Mosques are built on conquered land as a show of strength, mosques must always be higher than any nearby churches as a show of dominance.

Any land or property can be compulsorily purchased by the government.

Qataris are buying up the UK

Come the revolution they will lose it all, can't wait.
Report bongo • January 17, 2016 3:26 PM GMT
There's a shortage of unaffordable housing in the UK.
Scrap the CAP subsidies, and protection for rural brownfield land, let developers build some new stately homes and castles with suitable accommodation for the workers and we can soon devalue these foreign holdings by half. Who'll be smiling then?
Report AFTERTHOUGHT • January 17, 2016 3:32 PM GMT
It does not matter whether they sacrifice land or their lives, the point is their culture will be imbedded to far to get it out.

Money and life is secondary to the islamifcation of the world. Little by little day by day. Go to Luton and walk through there at night and tell me if Sharia law is not in action.

Walsall, Bradford, Huddersfield,Leeds - they are everywhere and the culture is rammed in your face with Burkas and Mosques yet we are not allowed to coplain nor hoist the Union Jack - we are only permitted to raise the white flag.

Quite an eye opener to see the Laggan estate bought by the Qataris - thanks for the headsup.  My secret bunker's not far from there.
