Is it manual or auto?
By:
Move to London, we don't have ice down here. Just streets paved with gold.
By:
Put a dead body in your boot, this may give some traction to the rear wheels.
By:
Buy a 4x4 or move house.
By:
Its a manual. Was told to put some bags of coal in the boot but only thing I had today was a bag of bird feed.
By:
May be no use for today, but go to a carpet shop and pick up a couple of bits of carpet. Wedge them up against the car tyres and drive onto them, you should get enough grip to get the car moving.
By:
How will he get to the carpet shop?
By:
Get a breakdown truck to tow him onto the road.
£100 should cover it. |
By:
You can buy 'socks' you put on your wheels. That would probably get you off the drive and onto the road.
Don't drive any great distance in them as they will shred. Althernatively, winter tyres - but greater cost. |

They worked well for me and cost about £35. |
By:
Park on road ...
Or get wife to push or sit in boot |
By:
As it's manual, you can try 'rocking'. Start to release clutch(low revs)and as soon as you detect slight movement dip clutch pedal and allow vehicle to roll back. Repeat until vehicle is moving a few inches then increase revs, should be good to go.
By:
^^Just like that.
By:
I can reverse back out of my own drive which is flat. There is then a small incline to get on the main road which is just about 5 metres away but it just wont go up it. The wheels just keep spinning.
By:
Spread salt to melt the snow/ ice .....that will be 20 Guineas, ty.
By:
You've been on here two and three quarter hours.
The ice has probably melted by now. |
By:
Just after watching another car the same type of mine struggling to even get its back wheels on the kerb on the main road. It did not even try to attempt getting into where I am trying to get out of. Not sure why they make cars with back wheel drives. Is there any advantage to them?
By:
I assume you are pretty isolated and cannot get assistance from neighbours etc. , so you could try lowering tyre pressures and reverse up the incline. Inflate to normal pressures asap.
By:
It has not melted any. There is no chance of getting out at the minute. Have nothing important to do. Just couldn't get my son to nursery this morning but he was not too disappointed.
By:
I am not isolated at all. I live in a cul de sac with houses all around.
By:
Keep your drive gritted and salted before cold snaps....should prevent in future.
By:
Same problem for me, rear wheel drive
, even a bit of slush means walking . |
By:
If it's not desperate just batten down the hatches and enjoy some quality time with your little guy.
cooperman already put up what I was going to say but best thing when you can get out is to pick up 23 or 3 bags of grit and salt and keep them in the boot, along with a spade, all winter. The weight will also help when you don't need to grit. Rear wheel drive is a b@stard on snow and ice, especially when you are surrounded by other traffic, and parked cars etc. It's all well and good Clarkson and Hammond creasing themselves, every time they get the back out, on a freaking race track. It doesn't work in the real world. I just about "looped the loop" three times in my RWD, as it would break away when going at a gnats pace, and without touching any of the pedals. So bad was it that I vowed not to go through another winter, so I bought a 4x4 saloon car, and guess what..... we had totally zero snow!!! |
By:
....*2 or 3 bags
By:
I bought a set of continental winter tyres last year, there's been no snow since I got them but even if there had of been I don't think I'd drive like this

By:
My son lives in Sweden where winter tyres are compulsory. Frightens the daylight out of me driving on snow and ice as if it's not there.
By:
try pulling away in 3rd gear
By:
BMW?
By:
Reverse all the way to the main road rather than going into forward gear before the incline starts?
By:
Lee ...
Ihave a BMW and they're notorious for being useless on even the lightest snow. FFS, I even nearly got stuck on a flat grass field that was slightly damp last summer. But I get my reward by not signalling when I turn left! It sort of balances motoring's ying & yang |
By:
Capt_F 's suggestion is what I've had success with in similar situations
By:
Trust you use your disabled sticker too meme

when you park^^^
By:
Lee ... no I don't have a disabled sticker ... don't need one with a BM ... park it where you like.
What I do sometimes is indicate right but then don't turn ... it sort of balances the number of no signals made when I turn left. |

I just love it when I'm cut up by mememe in his beamer as I can admire the sleek German styling from close up. The sweet subtle perfume of diesel fumes is an unexpected bonus.

Test droves some beemers once. couldn't fit in them because not enough head room.
Conclusion: beemers are for uppity, flash harry, short-arses. ![]() |

Test droves some beemers once. couldn't fit in them because not enough head room. Conclusion: beemers are for uppity, flash harry, short-arses. Why do you think they've got sun rooves ... wow what a funny word. Anyway, not everybody can pull off driving a BMW ... just ![]() Suggest you stay with your CV2, mais oui? |
