My Aviva renewal just came through.  No changes from last year - 2 cars, fully comp, no claims.

Now £868, last year £674!!

Rang them up and asked if there was a mistake.

Muppet on phone said "well, some premiums do go up"CryCryCry

Clearly Aviva hasn't cornered the market for straight A students ... I guess I must have had one of the promising young footballers.

makes my blood boil these insurance companies, must make a small fortune out of the elderly who have no access to the internet to compare available prices and just renew yearly.

knot,

same thing happened with them last year ... I didn't renew and said I was going to shop around.

Called me back a couple of days before expiry (I hadn't gone elsewhere at that point) and offered same premium as previous year!!

So I renewed with them.

But I hadn't considered what you say re preying on the elderly ... I thought they were just morons.

There is a guy called Paul Whitehouse who every time he has to renew he has to pretend to be someone else to get a decent quote off them. Must be a real hassle with all the various wigs, glasses, make-up and accents.

You are a disgrace. If a company offers me a renewal at a stupid premium and doesnt sort it on the first phone call I go elsewhere. Its the principle

zazu

I went with them again because they offered much the same premium as the previous year, which I'd reckoned was ok value for money.

I've been with Aviva for 3 years now and did all of the searching the internet and form filling 3 years ago to get the best price then, and in the end their premiums have hardly changed for me - that's why I renewed.

If you want to spend your time pi$$ing about on t'internet to save a couple of quid, that's up to you!

Principles are for people who act stupid, imo.

Got quote from existing insurance company say £300.  Up from say £250.

Said, keep it at the same and I will renew, they said they couldn't.

Shopped around and got deal for £230.  Exactly the same terms.

In fact it was the same firm underwriting it as the original quote.

Zazu - very often hassle with changing insurer due to NCD issues.

mememe - probably better off insuring each separately.

It's not just car insurance is it? Virtually everything, bank accounts, CCs, mortgages, house insurance, energy, electricals, white goods, telephone, broadband, gas servicing etc etc.

Not just the elderly, some reasonably educated people I know can't be arsed to shop around.

The flip side is that if they did, I'd be paying more. These businesses need to get their coin, I'm happy if they get it off other people.
