The King's Arms have squared up to the problem by making all the fixtures and fittings removable.

No soft furnishings etc, but I don't know what they do about the beer cellar (assuming there is one)!

A block of flats near me has just been built.  When it rains heavily drains overflow.  They have  built a wall that directs the flood water right in to the front door.  Just waiting for the first heavy rain for the fun to start.

I got stuck in a flood in Naburn, York, back in '91.

Heading for a business meeting, and determined to get there.

Came upon the flood but reasoned it couldn't be that deep, so slowly crawled through it.

I was in my "Scirocco" which was very low to the ground, and despite due care it died!

The water was up to the sills, and a bus, and a truck, came through, and hit me with a massive bow wave.

Eventually I persuaded it to start, and reversed slowly, with lots of throttle to clear the exhaust, and was lucky to get away with it!

Very scary, and that would have been no more than a foot deep.

Victims of flooding are asking why we spend 12 billion a year on foreign aid when our own towns need protecting?

I thought governments were supposed to look after their own citizens before they start looking after the rest of the world.

Government of climate change deniers

They don't deny climate change though do they?

They agree that the climate is changing. It's the idea that it's caused by man that they're sceptical about

"Victims of flooding are asking why we spend 12 billion a year on foreign aid when our own towns need protecting ?"

Agree, we should look after our own first, and also stop building new developments on land prone to flooding.

Cameron up there today, so expect pictures of him in his wellies on the news tonight and papers tomorrow...... And sure the people up North will appreciate his supportive appearance !!!!!!!

Report Burton-Brewers • December 28, 2015 4:31 PM GMT
Thanks to the European Water Framework Directive – which passed into UK law in 2000 and which is enforced by the Environment Agency – the emphasis has shifted from preventing flooding to encouraging it.

Under EU legislation, dredging rivers is considered environmentally unfriendly because it takes them away from their “undisturbed”, “natural” state.
