I watch a few of their programmes, mostly quizzes and news, but the quality has deteriorated so much in recent years and become so absurdly PC that I'll be damned if I'll contribute another penny to their bloated pension fund.

Several years ago somebody in the BBC billing department accidentally made a typo whilst updating my account, resulting in a duplicate demand being created.  A threatening letter arrived on my doorstep, same personal details and postcode but with a slight spelling mistake in the the town name, requesting immediate payment of another licence fee.

Despite two or three telephone calls pointing out the error the demands kept coming and, now being fed up with the whole thing, I just ignored them.

It's possible you might also qualify for preferential treatment, such as getting invites onto dumbed-down TV game shows and a regular guest spot on 'Newsnight'.

Where has this AFTERTHOUGHT come from? I've never noticed him until recently but he seems to start (or appear on) a lot of threads with "Look at me I'm a racist". Now I don't really give a t0ss if someone is racist or not, but he appears to want to shout it from the rooftops, which makes me think that he's a complete fake who thinks he's "bigging" himself up by being slightly outrageous.

I've never opened one of his threads before or even spoke to him (with this username) so I apologise if this is some sort of (tedious) joke. A proper racist though would be far smarter than this though imo.

One simple question makes it easy to know if you need a TV Licence:
Am I watching or recording live TV on any device?
Live TV means any programme you watch or record at the same time as it's being shown on TV or an online TV service.
An online TV service is a service that mainly aims to provide TV programmes over the internet, e.g. on a website or through an app or Smart TV.
If you only ever watch on demand programmes, you don’t need a TV Licence. On demand includes catch-up TV, streaming or downloading programmes after they’ve been shown on live TV, or programmes available online before being shown on live TV.

Yadda Yadda Yadda - Rascist

Realist I prefer - its my Allah given right to like or dislike who I choose, not the governments.

Oh and if you want to give up your TV license then just write to them and tell them you are removing their 'implied' right of access.... tell them you do not have a TV and any visits will constitute harrassment - black yerself up to give it more emphasis !

You can let them in if you want but they will then try and get you to sign a piece of paper - dont sign anything, better just shut the door, they dont have any warrants, they are a private corporation.

Theres plenty of vids on youtube on the subject - if the police come witjh the enforcers (they use a private company) tell them they have no need to be there, ask them who they are there representing, remind them they are onlt to keep the peace, ask them outright are they there to protect you not enforce license fees. Als record every conversation and keep asking questions, if the police ask you your name don't answer or else they then have juristiction over you.

Just need to pop off and check all my rascist threads and stick a few more pokers in the fire.

Report mokegibboni • December 29, 2015 11:10 AM GMT
That TV mobile licence detector van was a complete and utter total con! The electrical/electronic engineers that I worked with insisted that they couldn't detect electronically from a van in the street if you (a) possessed a TV, (b)whether it was on or off at the time and (c) what channel you were watching at the time.

The whole thing was a disgrace and was just put in place to frighten the public into thinking that they would be found out and get caught.

The only way they could tell if you had a TV was when they knocked on your door and either saw and/or heard a TV in your house whilst they stood at the front door talking to you!
Report Dr Crippen • December 29, 2015 11:18 AM GMT
I wouldn't take the chance these days that they haven't got the equipment to detect a television receiving transmissions in a home.
Report naydam • December 29, 2015 11:19 AM GMT
All they wanted, then and now, is for people to abide by the law and pay for their television reception licence. Without it, you are breaking the law if you watch, or record, 'live' television programmes on any channel, via any source.

I THINK!  LaughLaughLaugh
Report Dr Crippen • December 29, 2015 11:20 AM GMT

Report mokegibboni • December 29, 2015 11:29 AM GMT
No they don't - TV screens do NOT transmit anything whilst they are on - that is a total myth that they want you to believe in.
Report Dr Crippen • December 29, 2015 11:52 AM GMT
The BBC never uses evidence of detection in court as proof of someone receiving without a license.
This apparently is because they would have to declare the technology involved in the detection.
So they need other evidence to prosecute.

If they can't see or hear the set on from outside and you don't let them into your home they're snookered.
Although they might trick their way into your home.
Report Dr Crippen • December 29, 2015 11:59 AM GMT

This comment from that link is the correct one ....

'First of all, line flyback, line sync, sync seperators. These are a part of all CRT circuits (be it T.V. or a p.c. monitor), and cannot be detected accurately, from more than 1ft away from the appliance. All CRT devices and appliances are adequately shielded to prevent the emission of harmfull radiation, and in any case, the EHT and shielding (earthed),would prevent smaller signals from interfering with other equipment thus eliminating any signals that tranverse the air waves before they get a chance to.'

One of our engineers at work knew someone who was a contract engineer who worked for a time for the BBC to fit out some of those so called 'detector vans' and he said that all they did was fill the van with oscilloscopes and the like, but they weren't plugged into anything. The only time that they energised the equipment was when the BBC made an advert showing these vans going around the country 'detecting' active TV's.

Absolute and total bullshit and anyone writing on that forum in that link is either lying or totally ignorant.

Most pertinently, they used to have reporters who had had other careers, were worldly-wise and slightly cynical - now they have career-reporters with little outside experience, and who could have been cloned.  The internet/cable/satellite is stripping them bare, entertainment-wise.  What a shame they blew the news impartiality as well.
