I watch a few of their programmes, mostly quizzes and news, but the quality has deteriorated so much in recent years and become so absurdly PC that I'll be damned if I'll contribute another penny to their bloated pension fund.

Anyone unfortunate enough to have watched the last few editions of the execrable "Celebrity Mastermind" will have great sympathy with PM's views.

Good call.....

As a licence fee payer, I think that you are still contributing towards Stuart Hall's pension.

Several years ago somebody in the BBC billing department accidentally made a typo whilst updating my account, resulting in a duplicate demand being created.  A threatening letter arrived on my doorstep, same personal details and postcode but with a slight spelling mistake in the the town name, requesting immediate payment of another licence fee.

Despite two or three telephone calls pointing out the error the demands kept coming and, now being fed up with the whole thing, I just ignored them.

do they actually drive around roads with a massive piece of equipment
fitted to the car roof checking for non payers these days?

I've no idea.  I understand, however, if one of their inspectors turns up on your doorstep wanting to check if there's a telly in the house it's perfectly acceptable to send them packing.

If it helps, I think you may well be excused from paying your TV Licence if you are a Pretendy Woman, or have had some sort of desperately unconvincing sex change.

It's possible you might also qualify for preferential treatment, such as getting invites onto dumbed-down TV game shows and a regular guest spot on 'Newsnight'.

An interesting conflict would ensue if the BBC licence fee was suddenly declared to be haraam.

Not before time, Pokermonster.  I gave up mine back in May for precisely the same reason.

iPlayer suffices perfectly for anything I wish to watch.  Mind you, word is that will be getting taxes afore long.

Where has this AFTERTHOUGHT come from? I've never noticed him until recently but he seems to start (or appear on) a lot of threads with "Look at me I'm a racist". Now I don't really give a t0ss if someone is racist or not, but he appears to want to shout it from the rooftops, which makes me think that he's a complete fake who thinks he's "bigging" himself up by being slightly outrageous.

I've never opened one of his threads before or even spoke to him (with this username) so I apologise if this is some sort of (tedious) joke. A proper racist though would be far smarter than this though imo.

He has plenty of threads on chit-chat which include "muslims, Jihads, and ISIS". As I said I've not read any of them but he seems obsessed by them. His last post on here was talking about if he were an offended Muslim then could he not pay the TV fee.

Indeed it was, Dr.

If AFTERTHOUGHT was an offended Mussie, I'm sure he / she would be out on the streets of Newham today protesting about the Times article I posted earlier about moderate Muslims protesting about their brethren.

One simple question makes it easy to know if you need a TV Licence:
Am I watching or recording live TV on any device?
Live TV means any programme you watch or record at the same time as it's being shown on TV or an online TV service.
An online TV service is a service that mainly aims to provide TV programmes over the internet, e.g. on a website or through an app or Smart TV.
If you only ever watch on demand programmes, you don’t need a TV Licence. On demand includes catch-up TV, streaming or downloading programmes after they’ve been shown on live TV, or programmes available online before being shown on live TV.

Can they tell if you are receiving a television signal on your computer?

I've got a Freeview dongle on my PC that picks up its signal from the roof aerial.
I watch the telly at the same time as I'm surfing the internet, all on the same screen.

I shrink the TV window and put it in the top corner.

That's not strictly true, sir.  The powers that be might demand folks pay for a television licence, but I am able to watch any channel I like, anywhere in the world, without contributing one red cent to the BBC's pension fund.  One hardly needs to be a technical whizzkid.

If you are outside the UK then fine, but I can assure you it's correct if watching live tv in UK including via computers, apps, phones, etc
