It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Eve, 2:15-4:55pm, Channel 4
Pretty much shown every Christmas, Frank Capra's life-enhancing film features James Stewart, who insisted it was his favourite film. It's the story of the owner of a small-town loans and savings company contemplating suicide by misplaced funds and the greed of a more powerful banker. Doesn't sound particularly Christmassy, but the heart-warming message shines through. |

KM,
The 'Dear Kitten' series is about a cat imparting advice to a new arrival. Whilst I understand your reaction, there is no unhappy ending in this instalment. I have been working my way through the series (didn't like the one with the American football). |

Seeing Its a Wonderful Life mentioned, I saw another old B&W film on BBC iplayer the other day that I'd never heard of before.
The Bishops Wife - Cary Grant as an angel comes to earth to help David Niven who plays a Bishop. Very sentimental of course but quite enjoyable. Bizarrely the bishop seemed constantly irritated and p1ssed off at having an angel around. ![]() |

An even older film was on BBC4 last night. The Hitchcock thriller "The Lady Vanishes". Damn good it was too, considering it's 77 years old. Never watched it through before.
