Remembering what happened in America last year regarding the "Arctic vortex".There is no reason why we can't get it here. This country is always playing catch up when these things happen.Best to stock up i reckon. We could all get caught out.
Actually, all joking aside, that's a very interesting question!
Worth a bit of research but, in the meantime, I am thinking that had it been colder, the conditions that came together, to create the massive rain clouds, would not have been the same!!!
It's tricky stuff, this meteorology business, which is why the "experts" often get it wrong!

If we had more CO2 pollution the clouds would have been heavier and might have protected usagainst the warm sun and it could have been snow. Its just another crackpot opinion but seems as palusible as all the other dommsters opinions promoted by the BBC. What annoys me is how rarely the Environment Agency is challenged by the media for doing SFA to prevent floods over the last decade. One chap was on the radio saying how he had worked for them years ago and they replaced all the engineers with young envrionnment graduates who sat at desks and issued weather warnings but did nowt else.

we don't have the same climate as the USA - an't possibly happen here - anymore than we would get 45c heatwaves.
that rain has come on the back of tropical masses coming up rather than cold air across
