Tommy probably wins the first fight too if it was 12 rounds.

I think he beat Maxim three times and a damned good fighter he was to but we're talking about the cream here and at that level Joey is semi skimmed. Archie was a great fighter but I think due to his losses and lack of stellar victories you'd be hard pressed to say he defined the decade in the way the other fighters did. I think he even outweighed Floyd when he got starched as well. Maybe for sheer iconic value I've got to lean towards Marciano but that's a tough sell.
By:
Sure he does but the champs get the job done. That's what set them apart. Louis, Sanchez etc etc.

Blimey, I appear to have touched a nerveLaugh = No, I'm not the one who is whining here.
I do not know Ms Eniss - do you mean the athlete, in which case I have no idea what point you are making. Yes Ms Ennis, the one referred to by Mr Fury which much of the sexist furore is all about. I'm not making any point other than that which I have concisely stated previously which I shall do you the benefit of repeating for you. "Agree that Jessica Eniss slaps up well and looks good in a dress". Thanks for the clarification re refreshing; I don't share your apparent view that honesty in any form is laudable, but whatever... You invite someone into your residence and they ask you a question; Do you (a) give your honest opinion; or (b) lie, be evasive or don't answer because you are spineless and are not prepared to try and debate your view? |

Moore lost 3 times in the 50s, in 72 fights! Leonard officially lost to Duran, and was lucky not to lose decisions to Hearns and Hagler. His other wins in the 80s came against Dave Boy Green, Larry Bonds, Ayub Kalule, Bruce Finch, Kevin Howard and Donny Lalonde. So your 'quality over quantity' essentially comes down to the fights against Duran, Hearns and Hagler, all of whom would've beaten him if the judges didn't have their heads up their asses.
By:
And if you're awarding the 50s, albeit reluctantly, to Marciano, you have to give the 80s to Tyson really. He knocked out more fighters in one year than Leonard had fights in the decade!
By:
absolute golden era when Duran, Hearns and Hagler were around. And not forgetting Wilfredo Benitez.
By:
No doubt, HH. I'm not disputing Leonard's greatness but it's almost wholly based on fights against the four you mention.
By:
Benitez was '79 which is why he wasn't mentioned previously btw. Not forgetting him at all.

I agree that Jess "slaps up well and looks good in a dress", but for me that comment was purely mischievous, intending to imply that was all women are good for, and designed to get column inches. He's basically being an arrogant pillock so he can gain notoriety and to sell tickets for his next fight. I don't call that being refreshingly honest myself. To me it's disingenuous. The fella is the sporting equivalent of Katie Hopkins. On the flip side, I think he has a good side and is loyal to his roots, but personally I wouldn't trust him with a bargepole.
As for the petition to exclude him from SPOTY, are they not aware that most Muslims hold exactly the same backward beliefs? |
By:
Fury made some comments that others found offensive, only after he was asked. Hopkins spews bile for a living. I've little doubt as to which of the two received the better education.
By:
Fury was deliberately trying to be offensive, same as Katie Hopkins. At least Fury has considerable talent as a boxer. Katie Hopkins' only talent is being offensive. I just think Fury is on her curve.
By:
Does Fury actually like gays and have the utmost respect for women iyo? I doubt it myself. He's thick and spouts sh!te. She's not thick and spouts evil, bitter, considered sh!te.

Moving this on a bit, can anyone shed any light on what church Fury attends?
Can they also explain where in the Bible it claims the conflation of homosexuality, paedophilia and abortion will lead to the end of the World? Only in pretty much every 'debate' regarding Christianity on chit-chat, there is a sizeable majority in the 'All religions suck' camp and I was wondering if there has now been a sudden Messianic awakening to the Christian Fundamentalism I think Fury kind of espouses (today at any rate) amongst many of the Chit-Chat massive? |
By:
All religions do suck. They are all based on a time when people din't even realise the world was round. These days you are called a dinosaur for ideas that were the norm 50 years ago, yet not for daft beliefs that are 2,000 or more years old.

Christianity is a beautiful religion and the Bible possible the greatest piece of literature ever created.
By:
I recall the big magician from Penn + Teller, talking about his experiences growing up as a Christian. He went to what I assume was confirmation classes, and the priest seeing he wasn't a believer urged him to read The Testaments/Bible. He did, and they were full of such bollox, that he had plenty of uncomfortable questions for the priest to answer, such that the priest thought it best he left the classes.
He implied, quite rightly imo, that very few Christians had read the Testaments are were quite unaware of the bile that lies within, and that if you had any rationality, having read them that it was a load of old flannel. |
By:
I suggest clydebank you open the Bible and read it, its very beautiful.

or listen to a few carols being sung on Christmas eve...the music alone justifies Christianity

Even before Leviticus Jehovah was fire and brimstoning Sodom & Gomorrah mainly due to debauchery.
As a kid I always found this story in Genesis 19 bizarre and sick. 'The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 2 “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.” “No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.” 3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” 6 Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him 7 and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.” Nasty stuff. Lot in an attempt to stop the local gays bumming his angel mates, was quite prepared to throw his two virgin daughters out to be gang raped. |

Everyone in the world is an atheist many times over for there are hundreds of gods, they are just too irrational to realise it. Man created many gods.
I believe there is a lot of good as well as bad that comes from religion, but until religion manages to bury the bollox beliefs that underpin it, the good will not prevail. |
By:
yes clydebank, but all religions are not necessarily equal. They are part of civil and scientific life...look at what Christianity can produce in a democratic and enlightened society. The great countries have all been Christian...since the foundation of Christianity.
By:
As things stand you are, by implication, not allowed to go to church to say goodbye to loved ones, wish your fellow man peace and goodwill, unless you believe Jesus is the son of God and performed numerous miracles. It's such a ridiculous state of affairs in this day and age.

"And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” Ezekiel 47:12
That legitimises the use of cannabis then. |

the only time I go to church is for someones funeral, and most there are work collegues etc, and not religious. Its a good thing.

Read Leviticus for some really inane sh1t about what should happen to women during their menstrual cycle!
My point being that anyone can interpret this stuff in pretty much anyway they want to. If you're a Fundamentalist, go chew carpets with the Westboro Baptist Church. Good luck with that project - but that's where Tyson Fury (remember him?) is going with his 'pick 'n mix' Biblical justification for his random beliefs (still waiting for anyone to come up with the bit where the conflation of homosexuality, paedophilia and abortion will lead to the end of the World). Thankfully, the majority of the UK has evolved to the point where it imbues its Judeo-Christian heritage with toleration, understanding, learning and love. Yes, there are a few blowhards (doubtless some will come back at me with names and quotes) who believe in hellfire and damnation, but for the majority of Christians, their God is a kind and loving presence who gives them strength in their everyday lives to live with all creeds, faiths, denominations sexual preferences, gender etc. |

Thankfully, the majority of the UK has evolved to the point where it imbues its Judeo-Christian heritage with toleration, understanding, learning and love. I think the point is we have not evolved as much as we think. Our science has changed our World but we cannot change ourselves. For the vast majority of human history and I would think pre history...probably coming up to circa 150,000 years We have believed just what Tyson Fury has espoused..which is some precedent. Our present efforts to change to a human society where women are viewed as exactly the same and gay sex exactly the same as reproductive sex...are very very recent, and I think we are being slightly arrogant. I believe a line does need to be drawn, although one allows exceptions to the rule....it can be a friendly line, but a line there must be. It appears nothing can stop us trying and even a man as big as Tyson Fury cannot prevent us. We appear to need to work through this. The result will be decided in that unknown land, the future I totally agree with everything Tyson Fury has said, whatever happens to him. But I am already known as a Dinosaur on here, so that will come as nt surprise to anyone. |

...thus my use of the word 'majority'

As for as gays are concerned is gay marriage the majority view?....my big objection to gays..
Because there was no referendum so I don't think we can assume it. Polls are not enough, or why do we have elections, people may not answer truthfully when asked, and can be steered by the questions or questionnaire. One thing that is a change from the past is The Media, everybody watches, listens or reads this it some time..... It is an incredibly powerful tool for programming us...you would be surprised how few of our thoughts are our own. Fiction can one of the most powerful tools here, the Media are generally on the side of Woman's equality and equality for Gays. In can be said whoever controls the Media controls us The reason I notice it, is I still remember my programming from the 60/70's which in fact was different. I am still running on the old program. A way to see it would be to watch a nights television from the 70's and watch one now. There are clear differences of emphasis. We now have now the 'action women'. Women complain of discrimination if they are not shown doing everything men can. But I think this is a discrimination against reality, very few women are action women. So I never watch it, as I consider it rubbish, although even I have my favourites, Vera and Marple, but they are more thinkers than action women, I like them. The Media has argued for Gay tolerance which I accept, but gay marriage, that is completely different, which I do not accept. The Media was always on the side of immigration, look at the problems we have now? I am surpised young men are not very confused now, but they seem happy with it. It is just old codgers like me running the old program. You cannot assume the Media are always right ca we try to think for ourselves more. |
