I am certainly not an apologist or even a "standard leftie" as proposed by polybot above but the link that you posted, G2D, suggests that there actually wasn't any official IS terrorist connection but that this guy was just a sad loser with psychological problems that came to crisis point manifested themselves in an insane outbreak of violence... like so many other senseless outbreaks of mass murder and gun violence that plague the US.
It is almost as if some people are rejoicing because this guy happened to be Muslim. If we try to cram this outrage into the IS terrorist envelope then we are getting distracted and there are enough despicable acts going on without trying to shoehorn this one in. As I have previously mentioned the tragedy for those victims and their loved ones is unimaginable but the root cause is different and should not get sidetracked from genuine, pre-meditated radicalisation by this sickening episode. |

I feel that this attitude is because the authorities either side of the pond (and the north sea/Channel)are in total denial of the problem close to home. Until the penny drops with the powers that be, these atrocities will continue. We're being attacked form the Muslim community within our borders. A hideously dangerous minority are wreaking havoc, spurred by an ideology rooted in Islam, a religion Western Govts have fawned over for the past 30 years. How many attacks will occur before Govts admit some cultures cannot live side by side? |

I am not denying what you say injera, I am just pointing out that it makes an easy argument to refute given that these horrific mass shootings are usually carried out by white guys with a psychological problem and a perceived grievance.
When this episode gets singled out as an "Islamist terrorist" attack then it is quite straightforward for apologists to point out the obvious and claim it as another example of Islamophobia. I am just trying to argue that this is "just another" example of heavily armed shooters on the rampage in the States and it follows a well-worn path of a disgruntled employee, who envisages himself as a bullying victim, exacting revenge on his workplace. We will never know what would have happened if they had not been killed. Obviously, in such tragic circumstances, it feels abhorrent to use phrases such as I have used above to describe the relative normalcy of these happenings in the US... but it, unfortunately, is the case. |

The availability of high powered rifles in America is truly shocking. Gone are the days of a punch up. These days it's a mass killing with automatic weapons... The regular occurence of Islamic terrorists carrying out atrocities around the world (not to mention the countless foiled attempts and arrests made of would be jihadis) makes it simple to join the dots. We're yet to see the authorities admit they have a problem with Islam within their own borders. On the contrary, they're quick to distance Islam form terrorism. That's a terrible lack of judgement. The other appalling mass killings in the States, are as you say, carried out by predominantly white, psychotic males who often seem to have grievances against their school/college. It's just as serious though more difficult to explain. Is it a mental health issue or that the above punch up is replaced by something far, far worse? Obama is powerless to stop the gun culture. In fact, the more these incidents occur, the more the public will demand a right to take up arms... |

Now can ye tell me just how many 'disgruntled female partners of "disgruntled employees" have obtained semi-automatic rifles in America and killed 14 innocents lately' and then fired on police officers from her "disgruntled" hubby's hire car whilst going on to their next 'mission'? I know America's women are less violent than NW ones, so i would be interested in the figures? |
