Does anyone know a little bit about electric bikes. I was thinking of spending around £500 on a second hand electric bike, but have been told that the ones on ebay would probably be knackered if they were put up for sale as used. I would be mainly using it for recreational purposes around 10 miles at a time. I am happy to buy one new, but wasnt sure I could get a decent one for £500. Any tips would be much appreciated
I'd go new, unless you know where it's come from. The cheaper bikes from the bigger retailers (Halfords etc) are probably OK - and you'll have easier routes for complaining if things go wrong. But £500 will confine you to the lower reaches of the market.
But not the bottom. This is the bottom when it comes to ebikes.....and just about everything else for that matter.
If these were still on sale I'd buy one tomorrow - seriously. That level of ugliness for £200 is a snip.

If your in no rush I' bide my time and hope that offer comes around again.
I spotted one on Gumtree about a month ago for £50. It needed a new battery but when I phoned it had already gone.
I'd love one myself, I've a 2 mile round trip daily. I have a car but it's a waste at times and I get stuck in traffic which is a frustration. An E-Bike would be ideal (although not in this weather.)
Tesco's have had them on sale for £187http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hopper-city-electrical-bike-cheapest-electric-bike-around-187-95-delivered-plus-2275566If your in no rush I' bide my time and hope that offer comes around again.I spotted one on G
I only looked at that site Laroche and it's not for me. Why does the manufacturer make it look so garish, if they can keep costs down so much, surely they could make something that people would actually want? That would be a massive seller at that price point. That one looks more like a toy which it most definitely is not.
Laroche has some great info on that thread btw.I only looked at that site Laroche and it's not for me. Why does the manufacturer make it look so garish, if they can keep costs down so much, surely they could make something that people would actually
