10/1 for me
Report Clouseau • November 12, 2015 4:11 PM GMT
18/1 (touched 100/6, 20/1 in places) hth
Report Mikael D'Haguenet • November 12, 2015 4:18 PM GMT
The reason the majority went 18/1 is because that's what it is. Unblock yer friggin' ears!
Report Gin • November 12, 2015 4:53 PM GMT
There are different versions of the lyrics that say both

eg: here is one that says 10/1

However I have just found this quote from Shane Mcgowan that mentions the 18/1 so I guess that settles it!

And can we trust the narrator anyway? "The guy is a bum who is living on the street," says MacGowan. "And he's just won on a horse at the unlikely odds of 18-to-one, so you're not even sure he is telling the truth." He says that both characters are versions of himself. "I identified with the man because I was a hustler and I identified with the woman because I was a heavy drinker and a singer. I have been in hospitals on morphine drips, and I have been in drunk tanks on Christmas Eve."

Thats assuming the interviewer didn't mis-hear him Wink

Presumably those who think it's 10s believe he says 'came in at ten-to-one' instead of 'came in, eighteen-to-one.' If so, why do they think he can't say 'ten' properly?
Report cardifffc • November 12, 2015 5:24 PM GMT
when you put the subtitles up it does say 18\1...........MD .....I must be deaf.......my wife and daughter are both convinced its 10\1......my mate says 10\1.......so at least I am not alone
Report cardifffc • November 12, 2015 5:25 PM GMT
MD.......that sounds a decent explanation
Report Mikael D'Haguenet • November 12, 2015 5:25 PM GMT
Baldfred says it's 11/2 after rule 4 deductions.
Report mecca • November 12, 2015 5:30 PM GMT
All these years.... my favourite line in the song, and I always thought it came in @ 10/1.

Thanks for enlightening me.

The maniac street preacher guy had to read the lyrics covering it , so no surtprise they fooked it up by saying 10/1 , just shows no research goes into f.all , mind controlled media singers.

Of course, in the modern betfair era the line would go....

"Laid (insert obscure Peruvian side here) at one point zero one"
Report mecca • November 12, 2015 6:49 PM GMT
That wouldn't be 'the lucky one'

Report bongo • November 12, 2015 8:46 PM GMT
It was a lunch time race in winter , 2 and a half miler at Kempton perhaps. Off at quarter to one, came in at ten to one.
