Bought a reconditioned comp for a fairly decent price but when I want to listen to anything with my earphones as it has no speakers I can barely hear it even though the volume is 100%
Is it a new sound card job?
And if so is it easy to fit?

Need to know what type of audio outputs you have at the rear of your pc ?

Also your screen might have 'built in' speakers.

I doubt it's the sound card. I would right click on the speaker icon in taskbar then you will see playback options, you should be able to change it to your headphones in there. it will be configured to speakers at present.

PS- I'm not a computer expert by any means, so good luck!

It's on headphones crags.

Not sure what to look for Ibrahima Sonko.

You didn't say if it's a laptop or a normal computer.

If it's a laptop, they normally have two volume levels, the first is the strength windows gives to the electronics, the second is the electronics volume of the laptop. To change that it's mostly a key combination, like the blue FN key and an FKey with a speaker and + beside it. Or some laptops have a knob, but i think that's rare these days.

Also there are probably two outputs on a real proper computer, the headphone out which is a different electronic design (and louder) than the line out. If you've stuck headphones into the lineout, you'll probabyl get a very faint signal.

It's a desktop with two pin sockets at the back. I can only get sound from one of them which is pretty quiet. The other one I get nothing.

There's also a headphone socket at the front but no sound from it either.

What version of Windows? What model PC? Have you checked there is not a separate volume control on the earphones themselves (probably where the two wires become one)? Though you say the volume is set to 100 per cent, volume can typically be set in more than one place. Are the system sounds inaudible as well?

Hmm. I wonder what is the default audio device set to.

Take a look at sound via the control panel. Also, right click on the speaker image in the system tray (bottom right of the screen) and go through the options there, checking the levels & mute options.

The back wire is probably line out. The headphone socket may be b*ggered, or disconncted.

I've seen a home built machine with the front chassis cables neatly coiled up and held in place with cable ties as new. If you open the case do the wires from behind the headphone bit go to somewhere, probably the motherboard or less likely a separate sound card.

It's most likely you'll have like 3 pins on the motherboard for the headphone socket, and a 3 pin wire/socket (perhaps part of a bundle of wires) that should come from the front onto this riser.

The case may have other wires from the front to the MB, for like LED HD and power lights etc.

Don't touch stuff without earthing yourself first by touching the metal case, but look for the headphone riser, which if you can't find it, fidn the motherboard type and a manual online will tell you exactly where it is.

Have you just got it?

If so, why not whizz it back to wherever you bought it, and let them sort it out, unless of course it was bought on line.

Thanks for all the replies everyone I think Aunty Post is right I should take it back. I checked the sound via the control panel and it wasn't on max but even adjusting that the volume still has to be on 100% just to hear it normally.
