In those days there were several charts based on record sales, but the one regarded as the official one was the BBC Pick of the Pops = the radio programme based on the Top 20 UK singles.
As they were based on weekly record sales all charts should have been the same, but sometimes they did vary slightly because one chart may have ended the week on a Friday, another on the Saturday or the Sunday. And PLEASE PLEASE ME was No.1 in every single chart except the BBC one.
The Beatles CD 1 with all their No.1 singles - Please Please Me was not on it, because officially it was not No.1.

Mecca I feel fine has one of the finest intro's of any song. On my list it is on a par with Baba O'Riley
For what its worth, my top five Beatles songs (irrespective of Number 1's) are
A day in the life I wanna hold your hand In my life Strawberry Field forever/Penny Lane (double A side I think) While my guitar gently weeps.

No idea what the total number should be, but I thought there were five singles that were number one in the US that were NOT number one in the UK. Yesterday of course being one. Someone will know the others!!. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane is prob another.

One final thought - They are probably counting the double A sides in US and UK as two songs (which of course they are!) and then deduping, in which case the total could easily be 27'ish
