There is NO way you would ever get me to fly on a plane that went anywhere near the mid east...

Agree with you there mememe. I was surprised to hear on the news that thousands fly to Sinai every week from Britain for their holidays.

Aunty Post - I didn't hear the comments from any pilot, but if he thought that the video was a fake, or not the A321 that was shot down, he may be right. I think it'll all come out in the end in any case. We shall have to see. Despite the said video, it's very much looking like that it was a terrorist bomb in any case, with or without video evidence.

Only the Brits and Yanks say it was a bomb...CNN have been hammering away at the bomb theory for two days now...more fear mongering so they can take away more of our freedom...had to hit the mute button. Anyone who swallows that crappy video and actually believes it needs their head read.

Possible Taliban / ISIS breakout of Northern Afghaniastann into former Soviet states of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (who are still very much pro-Moscow)

This would create a second front to the Syrian / northern Iraq conflict and give ISIS control of lucrative opium smuggling routes into Russia and Eastern Europe

Putin getting more and more sucked into an anti-ISIS position. The West should be using all diplomatic powers necessary to bolster this position, since we can negotiate with Putin far more readily than we can with ISIS, who, IMO represent a far greater present danger to the West than Putin ever does or will.

Maybe but Putin has nuclear weapons and is capable of wiping out the west, ISIS don't (thankfully) and are rather puny as a military force compared to the developed nations

rogerthebutler please explain how ISIS presents a 'greater danger to the West than Putin ever will'. What absolute tosh.

ISIS on the other hand ... well, put it this way, I'll take my chances with Russia if you'd be prepared to take your chances with iSIS.

The British ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, was just accosted by a frustrated group of holiday makers demanding to know what's going on.

The diplomat, in a suit and tie, glided into the airport where tourists had already been waiting for hours and are now being sent back to their hotels.

Well I guess that's one way of getting around!

Pray tell how this ragtag bunch of goatmunchers could possibly threaten any western power except for the odd suicide bomb here and there...they have nothing, they ARE nothing, they are what the media tells you they are and the media is full of bs.

ok - well, if - as I suppose (and supposing is all any of us can do) - Putin has no ambition /intention to stage a third world war, then you cannot be hurt/killed by him or those he commands.  Daesh on the other hand, while also being without ambition to destroy us, our godless unmuslim societies, most certainly regard us as 'enemy', as evidenced by their injunction to their supporters worldwide to mount attacks within their own countries.

so - couldn't be clearer : Putin has no interest - either way - in your wellbeing.  ISIS would take/endorse any opportunity to bring harm to us.    ffs, couldn't be simpler cud it.

Thats not what is being said elsewhere ,other reports suggest there is nothing recorded on the cvr and fdr of the moment event occurred , these units are located in the tail section beside the  aux power unit (apu) and the tail section detached ,initially there was speculation that this plane had been pictured with long term leaking hydraulic fluid stains from the tail section rudder ,their is also spec about the apu being detached and not an understanding of how it came to be so .We have an ageing plane that was heavily worked on a cheap tourist destination by a small company that was in financially stressed situ ,plane was worked on overnight prior to departure, but nothing major in log .What could have help  changed the direction of the investigation  is the find  of a small child a long distance from other wreckage ,many k in fact and they are saying this child could have been close to an initial blast but one thing for sure the wreckage pattern is confusing aviation crash people ,strange set of events and looks like engines were not running when craft hit the ground ,although there was fire .If it was a bomb in the luggage hold would expect to see damage to luggage  which appears not to be the case ,hence suspicion of catering equip but would like to see the evidence of a bomb ,it happened very quickly  and must have been a fairly big event ,would have been over very quickly for them ,RIP.

It doesn't matter. Putin has Nuclear weapons, Isis doesn't. That simple fact makes him more dangerous alone.

The fact that several US presidents since Truman have come close to using nuclear weapons in combat (Like Nixon in Vietnam, for example) should alert you to the dangers of a rogue regime (like North Korea or an unstable Russian president) using them

All seems a bit mad ,trying to paint a picture of sham airport like saigon evacuation ,if their was serious  safety fears you dont want a chaotic situ at an airport and too many people in one place with baggage  building up ,madness .Going to be a press conf tomoz ,this a source close to stuff sucks ...

bnb, perhaps there's been an obvious security breach - a miscellaneous staffing issue that could affect any flight.

I agree that it's somewhat ironic that the authorities aren't always cognisant that the apparent "gains" of targeting people in a confined area, aren't limited to the sky.

The BBC understands that UK officials received intelligence based on intercepted communications between militants in the Sinai Peninsula, indicating an explosive device may have been put inside or on top of the luggage just before the plane took off.

This is one more "gaff" that won't please Putin!

Are they saying they knew about it before take off, or is that just referring to suspecting a bomb may have been placed before take off?

Either way, if they had that intelligence before the bomb went off, that doesn't look good!

would like to know at what point the seatbelt light would have went out ? Many passengers were reported to have been found strapped to seats ,would that mean they put them back on or is it now normal to keep them on 25mins into a flight ?

Depends on the pilot...I fly a fair bit...some will switch the sign off before 10000ft and others keep it on til 30000...which is a bummer if you've been on the lash in the bar before the flight and you can't leave your seat for a pish.
By:

would say between 10 and 15 mins after take off generally. of course a significant number of people will keep their seat belts on even when the sign is switched off
