Are they still around?
Report s.kenbo • October 28, 2015 7:12 PM GMT
Caramac is the chocolate equivalent Marmite imo. You either like it or you don't.

In 1972 (aged 10) I found a joke in a packet of bazooka joe (remember those?). Anyway, the joke was "I'll give anyone £5 who can solve my problems" - The reply was "I will, where's the £5" - "That's the first problem" - I sent this to Whizzer and Chips and they published it and sent me £1.00 (for every joke published) Grin

I suspect that went on 3 doubles and a treble at next days meetings.

Probably, my old man used to take me to Walthamstow dogs every Saturday and allowed me a little punt out of my pocket money - little acorns and all that

Getting back to the original Caramac i find its one of the few confectioneries that actually tastes better now than in the distant past.Mars bars for instance used to be delicious treat but the one's nowadays taste simply orrid.
Report Makybe_Diva • October 31, 2015 3:49 PM GMT
Will try and find one next time I go shopping.
Report dustybin • October 31, 2015 3:51 PM GMT
I always thought caramac was an attempt to make a milky bar on the cheap and never getting the ingredients right
Report akabula • October 31, 2015 3:57 PM GMT
Had one the other day. Was quite nice but I prefer a milky bar.
Report Aspro • October 31, 2015 4:49 PM GMT
Milky bar is very popular, even with the younger generation, they all eat it! Me, take it or leave it but if I had the choice it would always be Caramac.
Report dustybin • October 31, 2015 5:09 PM GMT
The colour put me off, that sort of beige off whiteness like it had gone off, I always expected to find a hair in it
if there was nowt left in the school vending machine Id have it but Fruit toffos were the first choice

Report Aunty Post • October 31, 2015 6:19 PM GMT
This was the most exciting thing to happen in my village since 1953.

We waited at the War Memorial, for something like three hours, for Queen Elizabeth to drive past, without even slowing down.
Not been a great lover of royals from that day on!

Report Tommy Toes • November 1, 2015 4:03 PM GMT
Tictacman, if you have a B&M store near you you will fine Star Bars freely available - and also many other 'hard to find' confectionery goodies.
Report Tommy Toes • November 1, 2015 4:06 PM GMT
For instance; chocolate covered cinder toffee (in large bags), blackcurrant and liquorice sweets, etc etc.

It's a brilliant shop for sweeties.
Report tictacman1 • November 1, 2015 6:33 PM GMT
Thankyou tommy, will pop in and take look.
Report Tommy Toes • November 1, 2015 6:39 PM GMT
You're welcome, Tictacman.

It's a great shop for all sorts of stuff - but their sweet and choccy bar selection really is very hard to beat.

You can find so many things in there you don't see anywhere else - and all at very low prices.
