Crikey, they don't let you go easily. Hard to get hold of a real person, then they witter on for ever trying to get you to stay.
Just to answer the regular question that is asked on here - including by me - which often results in someone telling you that when they called to cancel Sky offered them free tv for a year and a ride on Rupert Murdoch's daughter:
Have been a customer for 10 years, get broadband, phone and tv from them, pay now £104 a month for full package inc. sport and films - they would reduce it to £86 to keep me. I consider that a bit shyte - wasn't calling looking for a deal anyway, genuinely was after leaving so they did me a favour and made it very easy. Had they dropped to £60 I'd have had to consider it reluctantly.
Actually just considered that as Rupert Murdoch is in his 80s, a ride on his daughter probably wouldn't be much of a draw. Though I'm not averse to Grilf so not ruling it out entirely.

Big saving - I did the same but am now with virgin because BT haven't got Infinity in my area. I've also got a Mag 250 box which has over 900 channels. Was able to flick over to all 8 of tonight's Champions league matches. The box connects to the internet and you can watch virtually everything you can think of including pay per view free of charge. Think the box cost me £240 and I pay £70 a year to keep the service on.

Think so Aka - they've been around for some time in different forms. The big providers have managed to block or restrict them but the box makers seem to stay ahead of the game. I think there are plenty of people on here with one or other type of box. Some of them need to be connected to a satellite dish and the internet. I had one of those but Sky managed to block the HD signals so I got upgraded to this one. Goes off sometimes but still worth it. Apart from live TV the box has a store of hundreds of the best and latest movies and loads of box series. Just finished the full Breaking Bad series and now on complete re-run of Cheers. The content is endless - you name it It's got it. There's usually someone selling them in your area - I think they are work on a card share - I don't ask to many questions. Every sat they issue a list of where to find your fav team live - sometimes its a foreign commentary but thats not always a bad thing. Fingers crossed I'll get unlimited service for the foreseeable

I've no idea if it covers 900 channels or not but it's a safe bet that at least 890 of them are sh!te anyway! I get to watch films before they're out over here, whatever sport I want, and the missus can watch Game of fecking Thrones!

Thats the most salient point on this thread, and also gives an idea why subscription tv is ridiculously priced nowadays; because they bundle up packages filled with so much bolox that nobody wants but have to take to get the bit they want, sell it as some great deal based on the amount of stuff on offer and increase the individual items to such an extent individually the price is astronomical (£10 a day for a day pass ffs)
Its only relatively recently that technology has come to a point where these providers will experience serious leakage of profits, hopefully they take account that their business model is no good for anyone but themselves......though Id fancy a bet that they dont and actually try even harder to get politicians onside in wrestling back control.

Ive got the same box as crystalhunt probably via the same person
Its about 1 minute behind live as I still have a sky box as well - I'm not that keen on it tbh for sport although the rest of the family love it for box sets, films and it even has albums on there
I cancelled a few things from sky - I was paying £95 and they offered a saving of £5/month for 9 months which I said was an insult so I cancelled various things and got it down to £58 - they rang me up 2 weeks later offering sports (which i'd cancelled) for £2.50 for 12 months and I said no unless they had an offer on multi room which i'd also cancelled - they said no. They rang back another 2 weeks later offering to reinstate everything i'd cancelled and i'd pay £42 for 12 months - no brainer !
Originally if they'd reduced from £95 to £70 I'd have bitten their hands off but all they wanted to offer was a £5 saving and instead I'm saving £53 a month which paid for the dodgy box anyway

They are opportunists who will attempt to lure you with the least they need to do so. However they seem to all have the same programme of regaining clients where within the first year of cancelling they bring ever increasing offers to tempt you back. Its utterly laughable because they have dates on the offers and if you ring back after the date they will tell you its expired nothing they can do (or rather the drone bot on the phone who isnt paid to think but to take orders does) like you missed it. That isnt the case they then send a slightly different (often better) offer within the month to get you in for that month's figures.
Phone em up and just to laugh at em.

When I was leaving Virgin for Talk Talk, whatever Virgin offered me to stay with them Talk Talk trumped.
So I settled for Talk Talk.
Then after I switched Talk Talk went back on a lot of what they'd promised to give me.
When I complain to Talk Talk they said the person I spoke to must have made a mistake because they couldn't afford to do it at that price.
If you can't get it in writing don't believe a word they tell you over the phone.

Its the face of business today. I switched and the place I went to was cheaper as a result of supermarket vouchers (they dont just knock it off the bill because they do a deal with another large corporation who then get that money back from pressing suppliers, Its all pretty distasteful this greed) these vouchers didnt come and would never have come Im certain and it was only the fact I wouldnt let it go that I finally got them 9 months after the start of the deal. I searched online and there were plenty of others in the same boat, they ofc wil tell you they are isolated instances.....but you dont see these isolated instance errors when it comes to taking your bill.

Many people I know have these new boxes, hopefully we will all turn to them as internet connections get even better and faster, the best thing is this will result in the collapse of the overpaid ****s in the Premier league as susbscriptions vanish...brilliant!

.....which is why I always like to see the over inflated teams like man utd who are a brand rather than a club now lose. The longer the likes of them carry the weight of daft wage bills with no reward on the pitch the more it will hurt Its easy for them to take a gamble of 300k a week for rooney for eg because its the fans paying it. If the fans stop buying shirts or tickets because rooney aint worth 300 times that of somebody on 1000 a week then the equilibrium will eventually be reached because humans are fickle and pick their teams on likelihood of success. Sure, there are those virtuous individuals who stand by a s hit club, but most dont. Dont get too many manc supporting plymouth, or scousers choosing halifax. However you find the reverse in spades

I started a similar thread on here a few months ago. I left Virgin to go to Sky. I've got broadband, phone, tv including sky sports/movies for £53 a month, it's only a one year deal but I'm more than happy with that. I did have to add a few extras channels after it was installed but they were only £8 extra. I've no complaints with them yet.

Mikael D'Haguenet 22 Oct 15 00:46 Amazon Fire Sticks with Kodi installed sell for about £60. Might not be quite as fancy as CH's Mag box but a lot cheaper and it's a one-off fee.
Mik, do you get access to Sky Sports with one of these? Presumably it isn't legal so Sky could block it and then you are buggered?
If you have a box that records tv can you work the two together and record what is being streamed via the Fire Stick, or do you just have to watch stuff as and when its on?

I didn't get anything free TBB, I was told I didn't qualify for it by the Sky rep because of the heavy discount. He was probably bullsh1tting me but I wasn't too bothered.

Yes you get SkySports, though the fact it's streamed makes it less than ideal if you're planning on betting in-running. Not sure about the legalities (though I presume the same as you) but Sky haven't managed to block it yet, if they even can.
I'm not very technical but I don't think you can record using them. It's still the best £60 I've spent all year.

Fire TV stick costs £35 (although if you hol off until Black Friay then it will probably go to £25)
Installing the software is a Youtube video. Takes around 2 hours if you don't know what your doing. on't pay anyone £60 to do it for you.
Argos have them in stock now so what are you waiting for

No but it's not illegal to stream (I'll try and find the link). It is illegal to share and also to download a hard copy but as long as there's streams available then there's nothing they can do other than take the streams down (then another one pops up)

Just to clarify, I DIDN'T pay £60 for someone to do it for me - I paid £60 for a Fire Stick with it already fitted. I've already said I'm not technical, and Ovalman says it'll take 2 hours if you don't know what you're doing so I'd have to allow myself 3, so £25 for someone to do the work for me seemed fair enough.

You can buy the Sticks at Argos, Amazon, Tesco Direct etc, for £35. As Ovalman says, you can then install Kodi following videos on youtube. Otherwise pay someone to do it, like I did. They just fit into the HDMI port on your telly.

You nee a strong wifi signal that can stream. If you can watch Youtube video's on a laptop wirelessly without stuttering you will be fine.
The Burnley match cut out on me once an was OK quality. The picture is only as good as the source you find. I've had matches in HD before but couldn't fin many streams for the Burnley match.
I understand that Mikael, sorry I idn't make it so clear. As you say if your a technophobe you can buy the stick with everything but it's not hard to do it yourself. A simple Youtube video explains it all. It also gives you the ability to add more channels should anything be taken down.

I like to pause the telly while I go do sumat (I don't mean pausing porn either ) Also things often happen in live sport that I'll want to watch again in slow mo that arnt covered in highlights (like when van persie had the ball blasted into the back of his head from point blank range the other season.....I actually cry laughing sometimes, yeah I'm degenerate, bite me) Whether that's worth 120 a month I'm not sure.

virgin had 'leakage' for years due to the method they provided a service, but sky was largely robust. It will be interesting how they go about dealing with this technological revolution because after all its mostly them who pay for sporting rights then sell those rights to virgin and others

I have a GI mini box...cost less than a 100 euro. Every sports channel imaginable, all movie channels etc. Card sharing system, pay 20 euro a month. Only drawbacks....not all channels available in HD (no big deal imo) and whilst it is possible and easy to record onto a USB stick, doesn't have the convenience and functionality of Sky+.
Can't believe what a Mug I was to shell out for Sky for so many years.
