Bloke came to the door today, unmuzzled Staffordshire Bull Terrier in tow, claiming to be collecting for the window cleaner.  Sorry dog lovers, but he may aswell been carrying a chainsaw.  A vile dog for thugs that should be illegal.  Took me 6 minutes to get through to the local police.  Not heard back so seems likely the conman got away.

You know they are pretty useless all round.

I had some information for them about a local issue.

A guy called me back and asked for detail which was quite long winded.

Got to the end of it, and he said I would need to go through it all with a uniformed officer!!!

I said "Fine, when can someone come to see me"

He said "better not as it may alert someone, can you come here tomorrow at 16:00"?

"Fine, I'll be there".

Got there at 16:00 and the place is locked up.

There is a phone on the wall which I hung onto for five minutes, and then told the recipient why I was there. "Hang on a second" he says.

Another five minutes and he can't find any record.

"Hang on a second while I speak to York".

Another five minutes and no joy.

Someone came down to let me in but asked me to wait.

Another ten minutes sitting too close to a tattooed and multi pierced Goth.

Guy comes down but not for me. She wants to go down to the cells with cigarettes.

Another ten minutes and a young copper came down.

He had been out to my home!!!!

For Christs sake!

Annoying as if they had answered straight away I am sure they would have got him, as he would have stood out like a sore thumb with his white Bull Terrier.

Coming home late on the M62 and it was quite foggy.

Ahead I saw two beams of light going upwards and then back across the carriage way.

There is a car on it's roof in the middle lane!

No mobile back then so I headed on to the next call box.

After four minutes a voice said "have you broken down"?

I was shaking with cold and then rage.

Never heard any more about it, but there must have been a fearsome pile up, as the car wasn't visible until almost upon it!

Few months back spotted a couple of crims stealing a trailer with a jet wash machine on board. Rang police and was asked all sorts of stupid questions, finally prompting me to ask operator if they were interested in catching said crims or finding out my postcode, date of birth etc. etc. Pure farce imo

I had a knock at the door earlier this year, it was two woodentops. I instantly thought something bad had happened to my family, friends or neighbours. No such thing, they said that I had a window open on the top floor and as it was raining they felt the need to suggest I close it, quite surreal. OK I said but I opened the window to let some fresh air in and sent them on their way. Quite bizarre that they have nothing better to do.

Just like the ambulance service, or any other public service, they just don't give a damn.

I came across a frightening situation where a car had smashed through wooden railings, immediately next to a railway bridge, and directly above the embankment.

The car was suspended with the back wheels off the ground and there were were people and children still in the car and two people on the footpath (don't know if they were passengers or passers by.

It had obviously just happened as there were no other cars there.

There was a great deal of shouting and wailing going on, and I shouted that I would get help (there is a phone box in the pub car park,
two hundred yards away).

After a long wait on 999 a guy answered from North Yorkshire Police based (I think in Northallerton).

Told him what had happened and it was at Monk Fryston but he couldn't find it!!!

Couldn't have been more clear...."It's on the A63, Selby Road, a quarter mile east of the A162.

After far too long he did find it but rather than getting on the job he wanted all my details first. Effing ridiculous.

I went back to help but there were now two cars, a van, and an HGV at the scene, and they had managed to pull the car back, and get the back wheels to the ground, so the driver (still in the car) could get traction.

No point me hanging around, and I told them police and ambulance were on the way.

God knows how long they took to get there!

What a shambolic lot they are!
