So what's untrue with the sentiment that those unelected patronise areas?
Just like all those fake medals pinned on chests and false acknowledged service records that result in titles of rulers of the armed services

I bet dustybin is a barrel of laughs in real life Laugh.

I don't know much about royalty, I was told by men in suits to have nothing to do with them after Diana started stalking me, when I was the lead singer in Duran Duran.

Sorry, said to much.Blush

All in all, a remarkable night of rugby.

Yes indeed alun. I've taken time to reflect given the circumstances but that kind of excitement is what it's all about. This has been some world cup already.

Evening EO, what did you make of it all?   I gave my boys in red zero chance of winning pre-match and for most of the 80 minutes. I'm still not convinced we'll get out of the group.

terrific away win ... pity they are not playing Australia at Cardiff.

CC - is that our very best win against England?  Even better than the 2013 massacre?  I was at Wembley for the famous Gibbs/Jenkins last minute heroics, but I can't see how any previous win against England could top this one, even though nothing may yet come of it.

In truth completely staggered alun. I thought England controlled things for nearly 70 minutes without ever looking as if they were going to cut loose. For me the turning point was taking Burgess off. Suddenly the Welsh midfield had Ford, Farrell and Barritt to run at and frankly I'd have expected to be horse whipped if I had raced out of the line for the Welsh try as Barritt did.

That's my take as an Englishman. The pundits seem to want to hang the wrong man. Burgess nullified Roberts completely but Barritt played himself out of contention with his inept performance against Fiji last week but it was Lancaster's safety first, credit in the bank, philosophy which prevented him playing Slade who really should have been there at 13 as he was when he and Burgess sparkled off each other against France.

But that's my take from a very hurt perspective and the night belongs to you and the many proud Welshmen.

As for the group I think there will be many twists and turns yet and as crazy as it sounds, I don't find it at all inconceivable that England could yet still win the group if they were to beat Australia. Big if.

Wales' problem is they need a monumental effort in a few short days against a very physical and talented Fiji side which I don't see as a gimme in any way. Group of death indeed.

Anyway. Hearty congratulations. If after reflection you can't suck it up then it's time to give up. Good job I haven't got a cat though.  Rocco's niece is in for one hell a roasting tonight poor girl. Cry

That poor girl knows she is welcome here ANYTIME, where she will be treated with due reverence, and I would expect to toil under her merciless gaze, and even less merciful boots and whip.

On the lesser important matter of the rugby, I think you're being very fair there. I still can't figure out how England let it slip so badly though. I still think they should have kicked the 3 points chance in those last few minutes. Farrell surely would have made that kick. Still, it's far from over.

Ah yes alun but women of a certain class are so used to being treated with reverence it's like bangers and mash to them. When they get a cave man dragging them round by their hair and flinging them on the bed to be ravished it's like the best fillet steak. The more beastly you are to them the more they crave. Whenever they tell me to drive them wild I always make sure I wipe the owd lad on their expensive curtains afterwards just to let em know who the boss is. Wink

On the lesser matter of rugby there is so little between the best sides that in my view it really often boils down to having men who are natural winners and who are seen as such in your side. Go through any world cup winning side in history and they all had imposing on field leaders backed up by other players who were able to win ugly when the occasion demanded. When you compare England tonight they had Burgess who has admittedly done it in another code but he carries an aura about him. Wales have Warburton, Wyn Jones and a couple of others just that little bit ahead of the England boys. New Zealand have half a team of the buggers, with the Saffers having a few and Australia with a couple. You can't buy it and it takes time to build it sadly. Ireland and France have some which is partly what makes this world cup fascinating for me but tonight suggested to me that England will struggle to assert themselves unless the crowd is able to lift them beyond what they are.

there have been far better wins for Wales at Twickenham ... it's only the importance of it being in the World Cup that makes it historic.

JPR regularly scored tries there.

One match stands out when I was there ..... In 1970 Wales were losing 13-6 with 15/20 minutes to go when Gareth Edwards went off injured. A new hero arrived in the shape of Chico Hopkins from Maesteg.

From a 5 yard scrum Chico went to the blindside and passed to JPR who went over in the corner.
Tries were only worth 3 points in those days so it still remained 13-9 ... as injury time approached
Wales were pressing. England had a lineout near their line and as their players were nearer, lined up on the try-line, they threw over the forwards to the backs .. however Hopkins was quickest to react and collected the ball after one bounce and went over for a try which JPR converted to give Wales a 14-13 lead.

There was still time to go and Wales won a scrum which enabled Hopkins to kick to touch on the English 25 ... Wales won the lineout and Barry John dropped a goal for Wales to win 17-13

Another match was memorable for the report in that day's Evening Standard ... the pitch was heavy with rain that had fallen continuously .. furthermore there was a strong wind which favoured England in the first half. England led 6-3 at HT due to 2 pens from Alastair Hignell, who played pro cricket for Gloucestershire [ a Welsh wag in the crowd encouraged him to take his pads off as he was big and cumbersome ]
This must have been when the report to the Standard was filed which was full of England attacking
the phrase 'Semen [Slemen] coming in short bursts' springs to mind. In truth Wales dominated the 2nd half Phil Bennett kicking 2 pens to give Wales the first win of their 1978 Grand Slam.

In a hotel near Hyde Park that evening we congregated in the bar where an unknown Welshman stood on a table reading out the report while we chanted 'Jackanory !'
