Well looking forward to this, in south of france this weekend hoping for a good laugh with the locals watching it in a brasserie. Doesn't really get interesting until next week though - Eng v Wales. Bring it on.

South Africa for me. worried about the draw but they stand out as the value. New Zealand are just too short and haven't rated the Aussies in recent years

Aye LR, can't make my mind up at the mo between Saffers and Aussies, soooo (as i told Slips previously in conference) i will wait a game or so before indulging. My saver is already done (sorry Rob) Wales..

It really has snuck up on us. It is the world cup in our own country in, arguably, our second biggest sport. Surprised there isn't more fanfare, suppose that is the curse of being in a premiership football obsessed country. I've always thought rugby is the best sport to watch. Remember the semi last time Wales v France, I only really had a passing interest but ended up being totally and absolutely enthralled in it, really wanted the leek shaggers to win it but they didn't. Was edge of your seat stuff for sure. Hoping for a few more interesting games like that. And our group of death adds another dimension, means it gets very tasty quite early rather than just twiddling our thumbs for 4 weeks before waiting for the knockout stages. And I tell you this, I would love it. love it. If Aus get knocked out in the group stages.

Darts is arguably our second biggest sport. No fanfare because it isn't on Sky and us bettors have SSN on repeat so we think there is fanfare when their isn't. Sky go overboard on everything they show.

should be a great tournament

Maybe there's no real fanfare as it's not really a world cup. In addition anyone with a tiny knowledge of the game will be able to predict the results of 80-90% of the games during the group stages. Once the knockout stages arrive it will become more exciting.

If it was on Sky they'd be going on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it.

Have been looking forward to this for yonks. England are never given a chance (save 2003), but have made 3 finals and always seem to peak during a WC.
So I'll be lumping my £2 on them and getting this shrink's dog & bone number of the OP. BTW g2d - what kind of chance do you give your fellas? What with the scrum laws and each ref having a different idea on how fast you should recycle the ball and/or roll away, it's going to be a little bit of a lottery sometimes anyway. |

I think the refs will play it safe. Any contact = WHISTLE..! There won't be rucks to speak of, and anyone not calling the ref sir, will be immediately carded.
As for my lads, they will ruffle a few feathers, but as we are a one man team, if anything happens to him then it's kaput! So i expect a good solid tonking for him (if they play him) against all the hoofers in their dodgy group.. Healy's back, but i'd personally only play him in the last 2 games (same as Sexton) we may make the semis for the 1st time.. |

I know very little about Rugby.
All i know is that England can only kick to win and New Zealand always bottle it. I will be laying the shorties in the handicap markets. |

I fancy the Aussies .

Ibrahima, I said that to my rugby friend coach and he said I was talking BS. He said that comment was best applied to Ireland.

Low scoring affair tonight in the opening match. All the Fijian danger comes when the ball is out in the open, so England will keep it in amongst the forwards certainly for the first hour at least.
Will expect a series of England penalties from indiscipline around the scrum and breakdowns. Maybe go for first tryscorer as one of the England back row. Robshaw & Wood both at 28/1 worth a few quid each. |

I tell you how much I know about rugby--didn't know World Cup was in England

A lay of Scotland in the outright winners market is as close to free money as you'll get.

Paddys and Betfair are both offering a free £5 bet for every time your player scores a try. Conditions are you have to bet £25 in the try scoring market. £5 free bet is stake not returned but you should be able to make something from them. I know feck all about Rugby but there's never a 0-0.
Savea is 5.5, surely it's worth a punt that he'll score more than 5 try's even if he doesn't win the top try market? Paddy's offer is for the full tourney while Betfair is for the group stages only. |
