Could you/Have you ever go out with someone who has a kid?

Could be a bit of a minefield, decide if you like the girl first.

You could end up as second best to the kid and there is always her ex to consider.

There's always a catch with women isn't there?

Ive had two longish and lived with relationships with two single mothers. The first one her ex wouldnt leave her alone, wasnt that bothered anyway. The second, I woke up one night and shes sat with her baby pointing at me in bed saying softly, daddy .... daddy ..... daddy.

25 is quite old btw.

I would have either shat myself or ran out of the house on the second blackestnight.

The first one now has 3 kids and the second one has four.

To be fair, both were free pu55y and a place to stay.

Was only joking aasbff. As regards taking on another kid then I'd advise steering clear.
Most kids are horrible if let be and you'd be in a no win place if they give you lip.

I started seeing a girl a few years ago, had known her some years before just after I got married, there was obviously something there. So after about six years, split up with the wife, got in contact with her, she says 'oh i've got a little girl now btw' put me off a bit, but thought I'd see her a few times and see how it went.

The little girl, it's fair to say, hated me, used to kick me, punch me, even head-butted me once, not many things as annoying as a two-year-old girl sticking the nut on you. If I touched her mother in front of her, tantrums, all sorts of bad behaviour.

Five years later, still with the mother, and me and the little girl are like father and daughter, been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Keep an eye on her, is my advice.  If she scampers up a tree then it's a sure sign.

The pretending to like you is a trick, imo ... long term strategy, very wily.

Jed. The little girl is very lucky to have...and vice versa. It's surprising how easily women can ruin a super kid.

done more than a few,had my own "daddy" moment........she must have seen the look on my face as she then said she was only joking,never went there again which was a shame as she had a cracking pair and loved it in the wrong un........

I would not bring up another man's children. And the thought of seeing another man bringing up my children sickens me to the point that I will never let my relationship fail.

The future Mrs. Blue has two wonderful children aged eight and ten. They now have three houses to stay in, Mum's, Dad's and now mine. I've met the Father a few times and we get on just fine and the children accepted me pretty much straight away and everything is perfect. We will move in together after we get married but that won't be for a few years yet until the children are a bit older. The Father is a very good man and has stepped up in looking after them emotionally and financially. Things couldn't be better really.

I accepted another woman's daughter in 1986/7 - She was 6 months old and a few years later we had another. That child is now 30 next year and our relationship is as strong as ever. At age 16 she changed her name to mine, by deed poll. It was the most amazing gift of my life (I never married her mum so couldn't legally adopt her). She IS my daughter as far as I'm concerned.

In which case you would explain why that action was inappropriate. Hopefully, your presence would be one of benefit for the kid.

Aspro, doesn't matter how quickly the ten years go. It's very different taking on a baby that will always see you as a dad than to walking into a ten year olds life.

surely that's a last resort in this case

Lions only kill the young of a previous male as it makes the female come into heat quicker and if the young lions were left  then they would kill the new cubs by rough play....saw it on a nature prog recently.

Anyone who dares to ask the O.P question is undeserving of a partner if that dominates your thoughts.Age should not enter the equation,if you care for somene it shouldn't ever cross your mind.

It's not really a question about age. It's about taking on unwanted baggage, and nobody really wants to take on another man's children. No matter how much they might pretent that everything is perfect

That's a fair point crags; I stand corrected

However, regarding your most recent post, it never bothered me taking on someone else's child. I done it again when I split and this child was older and (as you say) more difficult. It is not for everyone I admit but for me I never saw it as a problem.

When I was 19 I met my first "live in" girlfriend. She had a boy who was 3 at the time. In the passage of time we split up, but I learned so much about life and other people in the couple of years I spent with them both. He'll be in his late twenties now, and I hope him and his Mum have had / are having fantastic lives.

I divorced 5 years ago and remarried, and now am technically stepdad to two of the most wonderful boys in the world, (23 and 18, so both away from home and working/studying). They are also a great excuse to go drinking in places where young people go:-)
Tread carefully, but follow your heart, and every experience you have can be superbly life enhancing and enriching.
