my wife being referred to as my partner on official forms.

FFS she's my wife - and I'm her husband.

Referring to her as my "partner" sounds like she's my business colleague.

I always cross out the partner bit - I suppose I'm a bit of a rebel.

The term partner is political correctness gone bonkers. Language is supposed to convey meaning as accurately and concisely as possible. The word partner just begs another question.

If I say to a stranger at a party or something  "Ive been with my partner for over 20 years.......", I always feel I have
to follow up with "And she..." because I know he/she is already thinking "Is he gay"

Co-habiting, living with, common law wife etc are all a bit cumbersome, so its time we had a new word for unmarried, heterosexual,er partner.

The word "girlfriend" is acceptable and seems to be used in news reports and the like.  But probably a term less suitable if you're over 35ish.

I don't agree.  I think its cute to hear an 80 year old talking about their boyfriend or girlfriend.

I have a neighbour who's close to 90.

He recently had a routine op and during the check up beforehand he was asked a series of questions.

One of them was 'what is your sexuality?'

I was appalled. WTF has that go to with anything. How can you ask an old man that sort of question?
